Hi,
I'm not sure where I should be posting this. I'm 22 weeks pregnant with my third child and my eldest DD who will be 4 in July is asking questions about the baby. Where the baby comes from, if I had swallowed a baby, where/when the baby will come out.

I've tried answering her questions as simply and nicely as possible but was wondering if there were any books you'd recommend I should read to my DDs that'll help them understand more without telling too many porkies about storks and without getting too technical. They are only 4 and 2!

Thanks a million

I have just bought my twins "Mummy laid an egg" By Babette Cole. I LOVE the book, I think its hilarious! I got it on ebay for about £2.50. It explains it all honestly, but also iin story form. its supposed to be aimed at age 6+ but I have no problem with mine seeing it - they are 5 next week. Its worth buying it just for the pictures of mummy and daddy having fun time on a space hopper Haven't told mine about the new baby yet as i am only 10 weeks, but can't wait to read them the book! Have also explained how the doctor cut my tummy open to get them out, but sometimes babies are pushed out of your front bottom. They think its funny so far......

I will second 'Mummy Laid an Egg'. Has seen 2 of my brood through at a similar age and it's hysterical! They still read it now; some great pictures of 'Ways that Mummy and Daddy fit together'..
Factually great without being nauseatingly dull; do get it!

I will third it! I used it for my DC and have recently passed it to a friend to read to hers.

Slight hijack - would it be too "old" for a 3yo?

Mummy Laid an Egg is really good. I read it to DS when I was expecting DD (he was 2.5 when she was born) so we used to gloss over the ways they fit together page.

He also really loved What's in your Tummy Mummy? which I think is good if they're a little younger.

Jacksmybaby No; not too old for a 3 year old! To me, there's something in there for all ages; worth it's comedy weight in gold!
