6 weeks and pain in lower abdomen

Hi, I'm about 6 weeks pregnant and keep getting jabbing pains just above my pelvis, especially when I get up too quickly or sneeze or cough. It's exactly the time as the pain I remember from my first pregnancy, which the midwive said was the tendons stretching around the uterus.

Should I be getting these pains this early on? Does anyone know if this is normal or should I be worried ('twins' and 'ectopic pregnancy' have crossed my mind).

Would much appreciate any advice.

Thanks xx

Hi Ellelie,

I'm 5/6 weeks pg and have been having the exact same pains, so i'm also hoping it's not ectopic or anything bad like that! I started a thread a couple of days ago as I was worried (think thread is title something like '5 weeks pregnant and abdominal pain' or something like that), and got loads of reassuring responses so have a look for that and should help put your mind at ease!

I'm no expert, but I had the same from very early on.
Coughing, sneezing, getting up too quick, and mostly when I change position in bed!?
I am now 37 weeks, and sorry, but it has been more fequent with second for some reason?
With my first, it was only on the left side,on the odd occasion.
But this time, it is on both sides, every flippin day!!
I remember thinking, there was no way I could give birth if I couldn't cope with that pain.
And to be honest, with the experience I had, giving birth wasn't as painfull as that crampy/stabbing pain !!

they do say all that stuff about it all 'coming out' earlier with subsequent pregnancies. I for one was fat as a house at 9 weeks this time (my DS asked 'why have you got a fatty tummy? Who's in there?) so the pains being earlier sounds normal.

Lavitabella · 31/05/2010 23:15

I am 12 weeks but had the same pains you are descibing but am having twins [grins] Good luck!

I'm 6 weeks and have been having the same sort of thing. It kind of feels like a period pain but a bit pokier. I kind of worry a little when it hurts, and then I kind of worry when I can't feel it! I was very reassured to read CheeseChomper's thread though.

DameGladys · 01/06/2010 11:42

Yes, very normal. But just keep an eye on it.

If it gets uncomfortably sore and is no longer just linked to getting up or sneezing etc, then do get it checked out.

Ditto if any bleeding starts. But at the same time, if the pains get bad, don't wait for bleeding before you go to your GP.

Thanks everyone! Very reassuring (except for Lavitabella, who's definitely given me the fear!). x

I'm 10 wks and get a similar thing, doesn't help that I seem to have been sneezing so much more since pg. Have found that supporting stomach does help when sneezing.

WestYorkshireGirl · 06/06/2010 19:13

I've also had similar around my right ovary when getting up and sneezing and went to A&E and had an early scan on Fri (am 6+6). All was fine.

Hi Ellelie and all!
New to this site and this is my first pregnancy. I'm 5 weeks and getting similar pains. Not too harsh, just achey, pulling type of pains. I got these in week 4 also. It sounds from everyone that this may be a bit early? I'm sure I'm worrying because it's all new and just like the post earlier on, I worry when I feel nothing, so beggers can't be choosers I guess! I'm going with the uterus stretching theory as it sounds most logical and I've not had any blood. My partner has twin brothers so that post by Lavitabella is a little worrying!!!

I'm also sneezing A LOT. Any advice on how I can calm the sneezing without using medicines?

First midwife call next week, so hopefully some of my questions can be answered by them, but until then any advice is greatly appreciated!

MainlyMaynie · 24/11/2010 09:15

I'm 9 weeks and have been having these pains on and off since 4 weeks. I have a scan at 7+4 and everything was fine (and there was just one!). The midwife told me it was completely normal!

Fab123 · 24/11/2010 10:59

Thanks MM - I hadn't heard of anyone else getting them so early. I'll patiently wait for the Midwife next week now :-)

Poledra · 24/11/2010 11:06

Just another voice to say I had these from about 6 weeks in my first pregnancy (was actually admitted to hospital overnight as they were so severe Blush). Didn't get them with the two subsequent pgs (perhaps my ligaments had given up the fight by then Grin).

All three of my pgs were singletons, if that's reassuring.......

Ivegotmrbitey · 24/11/2010 12:42

Here is cheesechompers thread I am having the same thing (five weeks pg) and have been so worried. Saw my GP yesterday and he said it was normal but am much more reassured by the post here! Smile

Badgerwife · 24/11/2010 13:49

I'm 5 weeks and have the same thing. I've only found out I was pregnant yesterday, but my gosh do I feel awful. I woke up in the middle of the night last night and could not find a comfortable position, my stomach just feels soooo heavy with weird pains and bubbles...

Am now trying to eat my lunch at work (half a bowl of soup) and don't think I will be manage if I want to keep it in. My keyboard wouldn't like it much (or my colleagues for that matter)

MrsPennyLane · 24/11/2010 13:54

I've had similar pains, I'm nearly 14 weeks pregnant now with twins. It's so easy to worry though- I did with every ache/strong twinge, even taking myself to the hospital to get checked out but it is normal. I also had alot of 'stretching' pains quite early on, but for me I think that's down to there being two in there Smile
