Sciatic pain in leg and back

Am 33 weeks pregnant and have been suffering from a sciatic-like pain down one leg, either that or in my back on the other side!! It's agony and was wondering if anyone had any words of wisdom about to ease the pain. Any advice would be gratefully recieved, getting desperate for some relief!!

Could you get a specialist myofascial release massage from someone trained in pregnancy massage? I get this regularly, pregnant or not, and it really helps me with this kind of thing. It may be that you've built up knots on your muscles in your lower back, pelvis and butt (not surprising when heavily pregnant!) that are pressing on nerves and the massage can release these.

Osteopaths can help with it as well - as you are well beyond the 1st trimester, you shouldn't have any trouble finding one, but it would probably be a good idea to find one that is used to treating pg women.

Or if you don't fancy a treatment, get yourself a pelvio support belt.

Poor you - I'm 18 weeks and also getting used to the odd twinges of pain!

I'm a sceptic when it comes to alternative medicines and therapies and wasn't keen to waste money, but I had sciatic pain and was recommended to try the Bowen technique.

In only one session it worked and I haven't had back pain since (session was 2 weeks ago).

The therapist just pressed certain pressure points (I wasn't hugely impressed at the time!), but the next day I felt great - I can't recommend it enough.

May be worth a try for you, I'm sure you can do some research online.

Good luck, and hope you're feeling better.

I had a baby who was back to back and the pressure she put on my back gave me sciatica, which unfortunately got much worse following the birth as I could not walk for the first week of her life. It gradually got better with gentle walking however I was advised by a chiropractor that sciatica is difficult to treat, as it can make matters worse. Rest is the best thing you can do xx

someone told me about this yoga exercise -get on all fours and stretch out the affected leg, kind of dropping your bum cheek. It really helped relieve it - also being on all fours and gently arching then curling your back, and swaying hips side to side will help loosen tight back muscles. Hope it helps - it is a horrible pain!
