I took a test five days after I was late and again a few days later and they were both negative. So I have been drinking, not loads but I have had a few glasses of wine a couple here and there.

Can't undo it but I feel terrible.

Set your mind at rest. No harm will come to your baby because of "a couple" of glasses of wine.

Congrats on your pregnancy.

Ty, I am so happy. I lost my Dad last month and it is so nice to have a bit of hope again.

I agree with MsHighwater, I think you'd only need to worry if it was a regular occurrance over a sustained period of time. Congratulations!

Hi Chocolate,

I found out I was about 5/6 weeks pg with my first a few days ago, in fact the day after coming back from a long weekend with my mum, where I drank wine like a fish, smoked like a trooper (I like(d) a cheeky few with wine!) , and ate loads of 'bad' things like brie and a whole trawler-load of shellfish.
Felt horrified, and went to the docs on Thursday to confirm pg, but also told her what I had been up to last weekend. She just nicely rolled her eyes and told me not to worry, and said that if she had a pound for everyone who came in worried about doing 'dodgy' things in the early stages, then she'd be a rich woman!

So, touch wood, you and I, should be fine. Apparently, generally speaking, if something bad does happen early, then it's more likely to be genetically determined, as opposed to anything you've done.

Not that i'm advocating drinking when pg, but if it makes you feel better, my mum says she was mildly pissed when she went into labour with one of my older brothers in the early 70s, as she claims that it wasn't as much of a big deal back then and a few drinks on a weekend wasn't classed as a bad thing!

On second thoughts, maybe that explains my slightly blase approach to boozing!

If it makes you feel any better, between 2-4 weeks pregnant (before I knew), I drank an entire bottle of wine, was on antibiotics and prednisone (steroids) for a chest infection, and had a chest x-ray.

DS is nine months and perfectly fine, but I did go in to my GP feeling horribly guilty and scared--he said not to worry.

I found out I was pregnant with dd1 on Jan 5 03. You can imagine as a newly married 22 year old I had had a drink or 2 over the festive season. She was born a healthy 9lb7oz and was more than fine.

Don't worry about it, I'm sure everything will be brilliant!

My midwife confirmed what everyone here has said. In the early days, there is no placenta, the fertilised egg is just floating around, so is really really unlikely to get anything from your blood stream. It's not like it needs oxygen or nutrients yet. Relax. And congrats

I drank excessively (to the point of throwing up) with both DS and DD between conception and finding out I was pregnant.

Both are fine .

Thankyou, I can't stop grinning. I can't believe it!
