I am coming up to 30weeks pg with dc2.

I have been having very strong BH, possible early contractions and was in hospital having steroid injections last week.

Things are still niggling and i am having to take it easy.

What i was wondering was if the steroids help the baby to mature its lungs sooner, could that in itself bring on earlier labour as the baby is more 'matured' due to having the drugs? IYSWIM?

It is the baby that starts labour is that correct?

I can't seem to find the answer anywhere (as i say i have a lot of time on my hands

I had steroid injections at 27 weeks, and went into labour at 39 weeks.

It just interested me. Because theoretically i suppose it could happen?

Steroids won't affect when the baby comes, it'll just just hurry on the lung maturation.

Hope everything works out fine for you.

Thank you

Hoping this baby stays in for a good 6 more weeks yet.

I was just thinking that the baby releases hormones when it is ready to be born, so if it was matured earlier (yes i know it sounds like cheese ) could it release hormones earlier? Of course, i may have got completely confused with the whole thing

Have no idea, never happened with me, the steroids were just a pecautionary measure incase of premature labour. If the baby had come early, it would probably be a result of the reason why the precautionary measure was taken rather than the baby itself.
I think they only aid lung maturity nothing else, so there is still lots more growth to take place naturally before the baby is fully cooked.
