I had some bleeding last week and had a swab done at the hospital which has come back with a heavy growth of candida (thrush) and heavy growth of group B strep. I get thrush all the time and have taken a pessary and have cream for that and I am not so worried about that but I am driving myself mad with worry about the GBS.

I had my DS at 27 weeks because of premature rupture of membranes and was never given a reason for this but was GBS+ (found out after his birth) so I have always assumed the GBS had a hand in my waters breaking.

So now to know I am + again I am thinking the worst and can't seem to believe I will even get to 27 weeks this time

I was so positive about this pregnancy and really hoped I would get to at least 32 weeks but I am on such a downer now. A close friend had a miscarriage last week and I know I am upset about that too but I can't stop crying tonight.

I think the worst thing is that there is nothing anyone can do!!! Everything I have read says that if you test positive at 35-37 weeks you should have antibiotics in labour etc but my worry is getting to 35 weeks!!!

I am seeing the midwife tomorrow for my 16 week check and will speak to her but I just wondered if anyone else knows they are + at such an early stage and are you worried?

Thank you

Please, please don't worry. I am in a similar position with GBS, but ds was born later at 35 weeks. There's nothing that can be done. GBS comes and goes, so you might have it now, but not next week. If you have a prem labour at least you know about the GBS and the hospital can act accordingly.

The are 10000001 cause of prem labour, but most babies are not prem. It's easy to say, but do try to enjoy the pregnancy. Only worry about the worst IF it happens.

I do know how you feel xxx

Ps I am getting myself tested at 32 weeks to cover me for prem labour, then again later if necessary.

I know I read that there's little point in getting tested early, because so many people have it at one time and then it goes away. So you might not even be positive come labour.
