Newbie- bugaboo or iCandy peach?

Hi, i'm due to have my first dc in a few months and can't seem to decide on a pram! My ability to make a decision seems to have been lost in pregnancy although I have narrowed it down to an iCandy peach or a bugaboo cameleon. I wanted a carrycot from birth and really wanted items that would last for the next dc.... Any help gratefully received

Those are my requirements too - and just to confuse you further, I am leaning towards the Britax B-Smart 3 as I've had some personal recommendations

Mcyorkshire · 26/05/2010 10:28

I liked the fact that you could get extra fabrics for the bugaboo which might make seem like a new pram for dc2 however the peach seemed more sturdy..... Haven't seen the britax but will take a look

I opted for the icandy cherry - which seems brilliant, have yet to use it in anger though..still waiting for DS2 to arrive!

What else do you want from your pram? The second time round the weight (heaving it i and out of the car boot) were very important to me.

Mcyorkshire · 26/05/2010 10:43

Dh and I will swap cars when baby arrives as no pram will fit in my boot (mini conv) so not worried about size although weight is prob important. Ease of folding and putting down was v important as I have rubbish coordination at the best of times! What is the difference between the peach and cherry? Both the cam and peach allow a maxi-cosi car seat to attach although not exactly sure how much we'll use this?

I have a bugaboo (bought on several recommendations from friends) and have loved everything about it - my DS is now 2.2 and still use it as well as a fold up maclaran!

The only problem I am having now is that there is no way to make it a double for a second child, you can only use a buggy board. So if you are thinking of having more than 1 and the icandy converts to a double (I know some do) I would go for icandy as we may now have to spend lots more on a double if we can't get away with the buggy board alone.

kapars · 26/05/2010 13:37

I asked this exact same question a while ago - can't find the thread now.
We decided on the peach in the end - main reasons - easier to fold, converts to a double (key reason) baby is higher - closer to parent in carrycot.
But it was a very difficult decision as I also love the bugaboo.
However, if you do go for the peach make sure you order it asap. There has been a nationwide shortage of stock due to delays in shipment from Asia. I ordered mine beginning of April and have now been told it won't arrive til June 14 and I am due in 6 weeks!

clpsmum · 26/05/2010 13:38

I have just bought a peach blossom as i am due dc3 soon. if you buy the peach it can convert to a double buggy should you need it to in the future and then back to a single again

I have to say that all my friends who didn't buy bugaboo cameleons regretted it. The iCandy, Britax and so on just don't measure up to the bugaboo which really is the 4-wheel drive of prams... It's so nifty and sturdy - I love mine!

There really are only 3 options for pushchairs IMO: bugaboo cameleon or bee, phil and teds or a maclaren.

I'm an ICandy Cherry fan too. It's light, not at all fussy and easy to drive! Bought mine off ebay for half the price of a new one.

I bought the icandy peach and absolutely love it! I would definately recommend it to anyone for the following reasons:

  1. Very easy to fold and open and can do both with one hand which is useful if you have baby in other. The Peach wheels are also mcuh lighter than both the Apple and the Cherry and easier to fold down.
  1. Stand fits in most car boots as can stand up vertical once folded as well as laid down. You can also very easily take the wheels off to make narrower and i managed to fit into back of convertable!!
  1. Very sturdy and has good solid wheels. We live in the country and often go walking on uneven or country/ rubbly ground and does very well. I have a friend who has a bugaboo and says while really nippy for getting round shopping centres etc not very good for more uneven or rough ground as wheels quite small.
  1. Very easy to guide around and can manourve with one hand.
  1. Wheels are foam filled so will not get punctured unlike some pram which come with puncture kits!!!
  1. Can be converted to double buggy for next DC and converts upwards rather than width ways so still narrow enough to get rounds shops etc.
  1. Visually has great looks and i am constantly getting stopped to ask what pram it is and where got it and all friends comment on what a lovely looking pram it is. Also not many people have one so bit more unique unlike bugaboo and quinny.
  1. Good brakes which i have heard some of the bugaboos have had problems with. In fact i think some were withdrawn in USA so worth checking this out. I was not impressed by the bugaboos brakes that had them on the pram handle and the one i looked at in selfridges was actually broken and the assistant said it was easy to do.
  1. You can put car seat on wheels which is great when baby is sleeping and you want to quickly go somewhere without waking him - dont forget to get the car seat adapters.
  1. Has really deep shopping basket which can be used as a shopping basket when supermarket shopping and generally to carry stuff.

Downsides however are:

  1. Not widely sold so takes time to order and receive pram and also if want any accessories. I ordered my pram in december and did not get until beginning of march with accessories arriving much later. Also icandy does not sell over internet so have to actually get a shop to order accessories for it.
  1. There are 2 seperate parts to the pram (unless you are using the car seat) so need to have room in car for both wheels and pram top which can take up a lot of room in a car boot. However you always have the option of just using the car seat which when my DS was very young i did a lot as always fell asleep in car. The bugaboo (one of them)does not have any parts as it were and just folds in half so much less overall to carry.
  1. The carry cot does not have any way of fastening/ securing your baby in which put me off using it. I had a big baby anyway and very long so pretty much went straight into the pram. I also bought the foot muff which i would definately recommend which made pram bit more snug for baby to fit in even when only few weeks old. The shop will tell you you need carry cot for them to lie flat in but when they are young but they actualy lie flat in the pram bit anyway as not long enough for lower half od body to fit in the dipped bit IYSWIM. I actually barely used my carry cot and wish not bothered buying it although have a friend who also bought the Peach and she uses hers all the time.

It is a mine field of informationa dn things to consider and me and my DH both joked how we spent more time reseaching prams than we did when buying both our cars! Hope the above helped!

Good luck with everything!

Bugaboo chameleon. I (and other friends with the same pram) are the only people I know who don't regret their purchase and who haven't bought another pram/buggy.

We've used ours loads, DS is 2.6 now and doesn't need it all the time. We are getting a buggy board for him to use when we turn it back into a carrycot for DC2 who is due in 6 weeks.

I'm sure that once DC2 is about the age that DS is now, we will buy a Maclaren fold up or something similar, but we will have had 5 years of solid use out of the bugaboo at that stage.

Longtalljosie · 12/02/2011 18:27

I have a chameleon, and while it's a thing of beauty, it takes up all of my boot. I now mostly use a Maclaren XT

cherub59 · 12/02/2011 21:49

Bugaboo!!!!!!

HappyGirl1 · 12/02/2011 22:43

I have a bugaboo camelon and it's AMAZING!!

However there is a new bugaboo donkey coming out in a few weeks that can convert to a double so if i were u i'd wait for that and have the new 'IT' buggy!

tinfoilhat · 13/02/2011 00:18

We opted for the iCandy apple, the peach came out just after I had ds. Love it, love it, love it! Never regretted the purchase - it's a fantastic bit of kit, really well made and very sturdy. We had the carry cot as I believe it is essential for a newborn, although as ds is a large chap he wasn't in it that long. Also got the maxi-cosi car seat that fits on the chassis - essential I would say! No need to wake baby up when in and out of the car and I was so pleased we had that option.
Mylittlemonkey put it all very well!
Good luck!
