I am 8+5 and have had nausea and moderate vomiting since 5+3. It has suddenly got much worse and I am vomiting more than 10 times a day. Food and even fluids stay in my stomach for approx 20 mins max before coming back up and I'm spewing bile.

It's getting me down so much and I don't know how I'm going to get through this pregnancy. Last time I had nausea and sickness (but not HG) for 20 weeks severly then on and off till I delivered.

I have one dd and I'm struggling to look after her and feel like such a mad mother. i know it's a bit neurotic but i feel like my bad mothering's going to scar her.

I just feel so isolated and low. I have zero excitement about this baby and have even thought I'd be slightly relieved if I miscarried which is terrible as I did earlier in the year so I should be grateful that I am still preg as I do really want another child.

In brief, I don't feel like I'm coping and the thought of weeks more of this is soul destroying.

Bebsy - I'm 32 weeks tomorrow and still puking - but the drugs do help.

Honeydragon - yes, I have referred to this baby as the parasite - or "this bastard child suckign the life out of me!"

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 26/05/2010 11:20

Ugh I know how you feel, I had this with DS from 5-14 weeks and didn't stop being sick entirely until I was about 20 weeks. Definitely go and get some meds from the GP, I would another time, no way could I look after DS feeling like I did when I was pregnant with him!

DD is 5 months now all my work colleagues still affectionately call her "devil baby", a nickname for her acquired due to my illness and enforced absentism, I mostly worked out of the toilet instead of my office when I was able to work.

onepieceoflollipop · 26/05/2010 13:31

Even now my colleagues remember (when I finally did manage to return to work late on in the pregnancy) me eating things like buns and scones almost constantly.

I used to sit in the corner in meetings and try and be discreet. it was that or throw up again. I used to be very if the meeting was important or not in our building as I felt less able to eat through the entire thing then.

Keep checking in on here bebsy, you will get support and understanding on mn. xx

Please go to A&E or the GP asap. You poor poor thing. I've had nausea last pregnancy for 24/7 from week 6 to 16 and it was horrible. I can't imagine how you must feel - and with a daughter to look after. Please don't feel you are a bad mum. It's enough sometimes just to survive the day. This time I haven't been as bad but there have been times I felt so sick and exhausted I've stuck my 21 month old in front of cbeebies for the morning which horrifies me but I just had to get through the day. Your daughter will be fine - you just need some medical help. Hope you feel better soon.

bebsy75 · 26/05/2010 16:12

Can I also just ask, did anyone who had this find that it was at its worst in the first 12 weeks, even if it did then go on after that. My sickness lased 20 weeks last time but can't remember if it peaked at 12 then gradually improved. Looking for the silver lining . . .

It was at its absolute worst from weeks 10-14 where I barely got off the couch - thank god for xmas hols - I just slept. Yes, I still puke nearly every day but I'm only wiped out say once or twice a week and now as soon as I've puked I feel fine within 2 minutes again.

honeydragon · 26/05/2010 17:04

sorry not what you want to hear but mine always lasted to the 5 month 20ish week mark before abating to reasonable levels, i.e you puke at lot less and when you do you actaully feel the better for it

MrsGangly · 26/05/2010 17:13

I vomited from 10 weeks with an admission around 20 weeks. Being properly hydrated made me feel SO SO much better. I'm still being sick but it tends just to be first thing in the morning and then it all settles down for the rest of the day.

Please see your doctor. IV fluids are amazing!

Jacksmybaby · 26/05/2010 18:23

I think weeks 11-15 have been my absolute low points both times - and both times have gone onto medication at 15 weeks.

EmilyStrange · 26/05/2010 18:33

Totally common, whenever I moved more I felt sicker. But it was depressing doing so little. I think that is when I really started loving the radio as it requires much less effort than tv or reading.

Do ask the dr to test your ketone levels and just try to sip, sip, sip all day. (really hard I know).

Wendy2000 · 26/05/2010 22:49

Hi, it does get better, I had hyperemesis for around 5 months but as everyone else says, get to the doctors, there are various types of meds which help so much! If the first type doesnt work, keep going back as there are around 3 or 4 which you can try. Cyclizine is the most common but I ended up with pro-methanol which worked really well and I was able to actually function almost normally!

Fizzy energy drinks also helped me a lot when I was constantly throwing up.

It does come to an end but I totally sympathise with you - I also ended up just lying on the floor not wanting to move, not fun at all!

Hope you can get something to help you!

tiredfeet · 27/05/2010 09:27

you poor thing, I had this and it was so incredibly tough. Its impossible to explain to people who haven't had it.
I totally agree you need to go to the doctor asap so they can start keeping an eye on you. I rang mine regularly when I had questions and it helped them monitor me and helped me feel reassured.

I felt human again at about 13 weeks and now I am totally back to normal

Ice lollies really helped me, they seemed to stay down at least some of the time when nothing else would and stopped me ever getting too dehydrated. Ice cream helped too sometimes. I think the cold must stop the stomach contracting as much maybe.

I also found just forcing myself to take tiny sips of water the whole time made me start feeling better.

don't be afraid to try the drugs if the doctor suggests, I had injections a couple of times because it had got impossible, and they provided some temporary relief.

try not to worry about the baby, they need such miniscule amounts of food at this point. Mine is now kicking like a little hooligan

Really feel for you, I hope it improves soon.

bebsy75 · 27/05/2010 12:25

Went to the doctor, who was great and really understanding. I'm not dehydrated but she gave me cyclizine. Have taken one but obviously a little nervous about any potential side effects on baby. Am really hoping it makes me feel more human

OP posts:
honeydragon · 27/05/2010 13:31

they've been using cyclizine for a very long time now, they are obviously wary of testing any drugs for morning sickness - who would volunteer, but when i was hospitalised they stated this is always the most used and there have never been any known documented or anecdotal effects on unborn children, obviously i'm no expert but I worked that one drug is better then no nutrients at all - hope it kicks in enough to give you some relief, and keep posting - you'll get plenty of sympathy and empathy.

Jacksmybaby · 27/05/2010 14:02

Good news bebsy. I would definitely recommend taking the cyclizine, I've had it for both pgs now from around 15wks (with DS - for rest of pg; with this pg - still on it at 20 wks). FAR less risky than the alternative of dehydration and/or ultimately possibly ante-natal depression.

Hope it starts working for you soon. If it doesn't btw, ask to swap to a different medication as some drugs work better for different people.

bebsy75 · 27/05/2010 16:27

Think it's working although feeling fairly stoned. Not sure if it's the drugs or the fact that I've slept quite a lot today DD at nursery so took day of work to recover)and haven't eaten properly for a while. The good news is I can't stop thinking about a trip to Nandos which I'm very excited about as it's been a long time since I felt like eating at all.

OP posts:
Jacksmybaby · 27/05/2010 16:45

Yep that stoned feeling is v normal!

skihorse · 27/05/2010 17:13

Cyclizine is the only drug (for ms) that doctors will prescribe here in The Netherlands. It's actually for sea-sickness but works well for us pregnant ladies too!

I've been using it for 20 weeks now and my little hooligan has been kicking the life out of me today. (parasitically!)
