What to expect? - Consultant Obstetrician Appt Thurs

Hi all,

I have an appt with a Consultant on Thursday where I will also have my '12' week scan.

It says on the letter to expect to be there for 2-3 hrs? I am just wondering why so long? What will they do?

I had a EMCS with dd so I understand this is the reason for the referral. Just wondering what else they will do for me to be there for so long?

Thanks x

My consultant appointments always took 3 hrs. 2 1/2 hrs waiting and up to 30 mins seeing midwife/scan, then consultant for 10-15mins!

I would say that they are just warning you that you will be sitting around in the waiting room for a long time.

Unless you have a very early appointment you'll find that the scan will be later than your given appointment. Once that's done you'll be sent round to the next waiting room to see the consultant (or someone from his team). Again it will probably involve a fair bit of waiting around.

At 12wk scan it took over 2hrs just to have the scan and a blood sample taken.

Thanks ladies for your replies!

I really was a little worried about what they would be doing. Think I can handle a bit of waiting now I'm prepared for it.

X

yeah its mainly waiting around, esepcially if they are doing everything in one clinic, midwife, scan and consultant it will take a while, mostly sitting around, dont worry, should be just introductory, going through your previous delivery, what kind of delivery you would like this time around, any risk factors etc etc.

good luck
