Hi,

Just found out I am pregnant with my second child today. My last pregnancy was awful and I was in hospital on a drip for a time with sickness. I am only 4 weeks along and already feel very sick (admittedly some of that may be shock and panic lol). I was given Cyclizine last time, I am wondering if I ask for it now, will the dr prescribe it? I really can't afford to get into the state I did last time as I have a 5 year old to look after and get to school.

Also I suffered from constant diarrohea(sp) which obviously made thinks much worse. I have booked a dr's appt for tomorrow, what help can I ask for? Many thanks.

Congratulations.
I was told I could not be given cyclizine before 12 weeks (I was eventually given it at 15 weeks with both pgs)... BUT I now think I was being fobbed off by my GP because a friend was given anti-emetics in her 1st trimester (around 9 weeks I think). I don't think a GP would give it without you having been through a good few weeks of N&V first, I'm afraid to say. I don't think they will give it pre-emptively, as it were. I guess you might get it quicker if you end up hospitalised early on (although I obviously hope that doesn't happen to you!!). You might not be as bad this time round so don't jump to conclusions (I have been bad 2nd time but not as bad as last time). Hope it goes well for you.

I was given a prescription for cyclizine at 8 weeks and signed off work, I elected not to take it until 12 weeks but in retrospect that was a mistake as it made a massive difference! Not every pregnancy is the same though as I wasn't sick with DD at all! Hope you get on ok with the Doctor and congratulations!

Bummer! Do think they will allow me to take anything for the tummy upset though? I am relocating to Devon next week, I can't be caught short driving down the M5! Eek.

Don't know re tummy upset - have not heard of diarrhoea being directly linked with MS/HG
(although indirectly I think dehydration can contribute to e.g. kidney infections which can give you diarrhoea).
Have you had an upset tummy yet this time round? If not, you might be worrying prematurely.
Good luck with the move.

Having an upset tummy already. I have ibs so my stomach is very sensitive to the hormone changes. When I was in hospital they confirmed that it was linked to my pregnancy, although obviously constipation is more usual.

Guess you can only explain to the Docs and ask if there is anything you can take and what the associated risks are, much sympathy being sent, and good luck with the move, I often wish I still lived in Devon.

Thank you Hevster, just hoping I can drive down there alright lol and not have to pull over to throw up. Although I do feel a bit better today.
