hi all

Can anyone help? I am 36 weeks pregnant, and as of saturday have started with horrible swelling of my ankles and feet. i am like the elephant woman! Now, this does coincide with the hot weather and stupidly wearing high heels to a wedding, but I wondered if I should be carting myself of to the GP to be checked re pre eclampsia? I have no other symptoms, and am probably worrying over nothing.

I was able to enormously reduce the swelling by elevating my legs all yesterday afternoon and through the night, however i seem to have puffed back up during the day.
Any advice?

Go to GP/call delivery suite and go and get yourself checked. I had pre-eclampsia and it is not fun at all.

i would go and get it checked, it can't do any harm.

It's worth getting checked out, it doesn't take long and it will put your mind at rest

go and get checked out, but if it's at all reassuring I had similar in last pregnancy and it was just put down to the heat and being near the end of pregnancy!

it could easily be the heat and the heals, but its not worth leaving it unchecked, call the GP/midwife and have them do a urine check for protein and check your BP. its easily ruled out, but a nightmare if it is preeclampsia and you ignore it.

good luck

I read somewhere that if the swelling goes down overnight, it is nothing to worry about; but if you wake up with swollen ankles in the morning, then get yourself checked up immediately.

Maybe that can reassure you a little? But if not, and you are worried, then by all means go have your blood pressure checked. There is no point in worrying for the rest of your pregnancy, and it would be foolish to ignore warning signs.
