When to wear bra at night

I have just been to John Lewis and got myself some (very unsexy but extremely comfortable) maternity bras.

I'm only 17 weeks preg but my boobs are growing pretty quickly and I can't fit into my old bras.

The woman said that I should also wear them at night to help save the shape of my boobs. Do you think she meant now? Or when I'm bigger? Or after birth when breastfeeding?

Is everyone else wearing bras at night?

Thanks

I started wearing one at night about 2 weeks ago because I was waking up feeling really uncomfortable and it really helps. I probably would have started wearing one earlier if I'd had a non-underwired soft one.

So if you are having similar pains maybe try it? If not, I wouldnt worry too much,... I am quickly realising there are so many opinions on EVERYTHING during pregnancy (it's my first), there are no rules, do what you think is right/want to.

I never had worn a bra a night, I used to put one on when I fed my son at night as I always had let down in both breasts and the one I wasn't feeding from would leak otherwise! I had quite badly cracked nipples and felt I needed to let the air get to them at least part of the day.

I'm not sure if it really helps to save the shape of your boobs anyway. I have to say mine are better since breastfeeding but I know women who have much less shape afterwards, it seems to depend on the person.

Thanks MrsSenior. I don't have pains at night, but might start wearing one if it helps prevent sagging!
Agree that there are so many different opinions on everything!

Um I'm 41 weeks and have never worn a bra at night!

I never wore a bra in bed throughout, but in saying that my boobies never grew and were only mildly painful.

I am not sure how wearing a bra at night will stop any sagging, as this is down to size, gravity and, to some extent, muscle tone underneath. Bras provide support against gravity/movement (as well as shape/definition) so unless you sleep standing up, it won't make any difference.

Some women are more comfortable with a bra at night in pregnancy, if they are getting a lot of breast discomfort, but you can just go for a vest tip or similar with support. Or none at all. As someone has said, it's personal preference rather than anything else.

ive never worn a bra at night in pregnancy, but always wore a bra at night whilst breastfeeding, purely because thats the only way to keep the breastpads in, and i leak like a very bad tap!

I have been wearing this at night from about 8 weeks because my boobs have been really sore and swollen and the bra makes them less sore.

I've been wearing a bra at night since 6 weeks as mine were so painful and lying on my side really hurt. Even though they're hurting much less now I'm still wearing one - it's just habit now and I feel a lot more comfortable.

I've been wearing a bra in bed at night from about 4 weeks because it makes my boobs hurt less, but then I always wore one before my period for the same reason. I have brought myself a cotton non-underwired one now and it is very comfy, although rather unattractive.

i never wore a bra when pg or bf. i used to put a towel down underneath me when i was sleeping when bf.

I've been wearing JoJo sleep bras from 6 weeks because my boobs hurt so much being unsupported in bed. If you didn't wear a bra at all, the weight of the boobs would mean that the skin gets stretched more so I can see that for us big-boobed girls, wearing one at night might help a bit. But it's more for comfort reasons I think.

I'd definitely recommend getting sleep bras, not wearing normal maternity bras in bed. They're a lot softer, without clasps, so are very comfortable.
