Moving house and lifting

Asuming all goes to plan - i.e. baby stays where it's supposed to this time and we exchange contracts on house next week - I will be moving house when 8-9 weeks pregnant.
We have a lot to move and are doing it ourselves.
What is the advice on lifting when pregnant? Should I really lift nothing at all? Can I lift lighter boxes? If not them I am going to be more of a pain than a help.
Miscarriage at 7 weeks before, so really want to be careful this time.

if youve previously had a miscarraige at 7weeks i would be super careful not to lift anything of weight, thats not to say do nothing, just dont do anything heavy or awkward.

youd be better off doing much less to be on the safe side than too much and regertting it later

I asked this question when I was pregnant last time and my midwife said that the danger is to you and not the baby. All your muscles supposedly loosen so it is easier to damage them, she assured me I was unlikely to harm the baby, however I did steer clear of the heavy stuff and tried to get people to pass stuff to me rather than bend and lift.

I wouldn't lift anything that you can't easily pick up in one hand. I've had miscarriages myself so I'm very nervous about this too.

I'm moving house too, I'm 18 weeks.

I agree with Hevster, there is more danger to you than the baby, I've lost count of the times my back has really hurt or ached for hours after some simple weeding, or even hoovering sometimes.
My job involves some light lifting and I'm fine with this as long as I'm using my arms to lift and not my stomach muscles. I find it's the bending over that hurts the most, which is why I will be firmly placed at the other end when moving, carefully unpacking boxes. No lifting here!

I moved house on friday, and now staying with my four year old daughter at my mum and dads whilst hubby does the painting and lays the floors at the new house. Bloody nightmare! I've avoided lifting anything too heavy, probably best for you and the baby to do the same. Hevster's probably right about most of the damage being to you though. I'm not sure my pelvic floor muscles are up to lifting much these days! For me its been the stress which i've found most difficult, and the long days over the move - i'm only 8wks and i've been very tired the last couple of weeks. And sicky - had sickness on and off all day for some of the last two weeks, although its eased a bit today.

Take it easy chicken, get someone else to do the hard work if you can! Good luck with your move and your pregnancy xxx

I would minimise any lifting, not because it can cause miscarriage - but because if the worst happened and you did have a miscarriage, you would feel terrible that you had taken that "risk".

But my Obs has said to me that it's actually very difficult to shift a pregnancy if it is meant to be, and almost impossible to stop a miscarriage if it isn't.
