Am 29 + 1 and on Monday night I was having painful contractions which I assumed were braxton hicks.(only ever had contractions when it was 'the real thing' until now)

They carried on and so on Tuesday lunchtime I called the hospital and was admitted.

Cervix not dilating,no sign of a uti or any specific reason, contractions registered on the monitor, baby's heartbeat fine.

Have had 4 steroid jabs to develop baby's lungs and contractions eased off about 3 today with cervix still not dilated.

Have been sent home and told to rest for 48 hours then can carry on as normal, although not allowed to walk too much.

dd1 was born on her due date, dd2 11 days early so apparently this is in my favour to not go early.

Anyway they put it down to 'irritable uterus' so I was just wondering if anyone else had had similar experiences and if so what was the outcome??

Yes, to term and now past it. All settled after some time off.

Yes. With DS2 I was admitted to hospital at 26 weeks with contractions, given steroids and a whole load of very distressing information about chances of survival and risks if he was born early. I know they have to run through all the scenarios but it was a really stressful and frightening experience.

I was kept in for two days over which time contractions gradually subsided. Told to take at least a week off work and to get as much rest as possible for a while. Also told to drink lots of water for some reason, keep hydrated.

My waters finally broke at 40+15! All was fine.

I am now 20 weeks pg with DC3 and have to say I'm worried it will happen all over again.

Good luck with yours, good excuse to put your feet up in front of the tv for while at least.

Yes I had irritable uterus with both my boys (strangely enough did not have it with my girl between the two boys!)

I started contractions at 33 weeks, was not fun, by the time I got to 38 weeks I had had enough of stupid contractions, could not walk more than 50 paces before contractions started up (made shopping in supermarket interesting). So at 38 weeks I tried long walks with horribly painful contractions, to no avail... baby waited nearly another week before appearing!!!!! My second son, did exactly the same, contractions that meant I had to give up work at 33 weeks, but he did not arrive until I was 39 weeks.... arrgggg. With both of them I had the steroids to mature the lungs and several trips to maternity.

Anyway I can really empathise with you, and just suggest, resting as much as possible and keep drinking lots of water.

My tens machine became my best friend through both these irritable uterous pregnancies. Although you are not supposed to use it early in pregnancy, as it can risk causing contractions itself. I found that I could not get around without it and it did not cause contractions directly for me, just helped with the pain. If the tens machine does cause contractions, taking it off should stop it.

I wish you the best with the rest of your pregnancy.

Thanks very much- these are the sort of stories I was after as my nephew was born at 31 wks and it was very stressful for all concerned. He's nearly 9 now though and perfectly healthy.

I'm feeling a bit better now though contractions and funny feelings do seem to start when I move around too much..

Hey ho 11 wks to go..
