transverse lie at 30 weeks - how many turn themselves?

My baby has been in a transverse lie at least since 20 week scan and not really changed position in those 10 weeks. Midwife says not to worry till 36 weeks but am obviously a bit concerned that it is set in this position for the duration and will need a CS. After two normal deliveries, am not too keen on this. Apparently 'most' babies will turn themselves but am just wondering if they actually do! Also, have heard bad stories of ECV - not sure if our health trust does this but anyone any experience of this, good or bad so I know what to ask if they suggest it.

Hi. A woman I work with had ECV with her DD but it had no affect and she had a CS. I just had a quick look on the net and it looks like only 4% of babies present breech with ECV being 60-70% effective at turning the baby with only 4% returning to breech. My colleague said it was very uncomfortable and that her MW didn't seem very sure she knew what she was doing. HTH.

my baby was still breach at 34 weeks, having been breach since about 20 weeks and at somepoint between seeing the midwife at week 34 and 35 she had turned head down!!

i wouldnt start worrying until your later on, the baby has plenty of time to shift position still

Don't know the stats but both of mine were transverse and both turned by themselves before the doctors even mentioned ECV.

Have a look here
My little one seems to have spun the right way after doing the "semi headstands!!"

My daughter was transverse lie until the morning I went in for my CS. They did a scan just before I went up to theatre (already prepped) just so they'd know exactly what position she was in and at that point realised that she had finally turned.

I'm 30+4 and mines still turning somersaults. The last time I saw the midwife she said it was diagonal, but seemed unsure whether it was breach or not - is that normal?

Both of mine were transverse til about 35 weeks (may even have been later with the first but I can't remember). I think most do turn in time.

I felt like swimming and floating in tummy-down positions in the pool while hanging onto the edge helped (you get some funny looks, but never mind) but obviously don't know for sure what did it!

duejuly2010 · 21/05/2010 15:19

Mine was head down at a scan a week ago and was transverse yesterday when the midwife checked. It probably in an entirely different position today . Plenty of time yet.

duejuly2010 · 21/05/2010 15:19

oops, i'm 30wks btw

horseymum · 22/05/2010 19:41

thanks for all that, am trying not to get too worried yet, there is obviously hope still!h

Dd turned at 36 or 37wks so still lots of time left yet.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 22/05/2010 19:49

ds was breech until 36 weeks, he turned himself. I did spend many hours a day on all fours over a yoga ball, to give him more room etc. However ended up with emcs anyway.

Hi horseymum - like duejuly2010, mine was breech last time someone checked (i'm 30 weeks too!) but nobody was bothered by it. Baby has been moving round keeping me awake so I am hoping it is doing the decent thing and thinking about getting into position. Plenty of time.
