Mask of pregnancy - anyone else?

Hi anyone else had so called 'mask of pregnancy? /brownish marks on face? I had it a bit with DS1 on top lip but with DS2 it has spread to face (he is now 6wks)
Has anyone else had this & how long it it take to fade? Any tips on disguising it? Normal foundation covers it a bit but not completely

i have olive skin and had an Easter holiday in the sun, i wore a hat but it must not have covered my chin because i got a bit of chloasma on my chin - like a goatee! i've been using Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and Dermalogica ChromaWhite Tri-active Cleanse (for treating hyperpigmentation) and it's pretty much gone (and the rest of my skin looks good too!) the best prices for Dermalogica i've found is on www.johnandgingerbeauty.co.uk

i have had it for about a month or so now (im 36weeks), i have it on my forehead and nose, which kinda makes sense to me as that the area that usually gets very freckled in the sun, but pretty funny aswell since im on bedrest and dont really get outside!!

im sure that it goes down after the birth, its a hormonal thing causing the body to produce too much of the stuff that makes the skin 'tan' in the sunshine.

ive not tried to cover mine up, but i have found that exfoliation and face masks have stopped it from getting anyworse, but theres no way of knowing if it would have got worse anyway if you know what i mean

I had this with dd1 and dd2; strange brown mark on my right side cheek bone; came back in the same place when pg with dd2 as well! Disappeared after birth though. I think they're also called butterfly marks

Hi, as my name suggests, I am normally quite freckly, but when pregnant...and exposed to a bit of sun - OMG - they all join up and I have whole patches of darker skin. After ds was born, I was quite aware of these patches for quite a while afterwards (possibly up to a year). I didn't treat my skin with anything particular and it did all go back to normal eventually. This pregnancy it's probably worse as I've had a bit more sunlight in late pregnancy. Try not to be too self-conscious. It probably looks loads worse to you than to others and it will fade!

My own pet symptom is itchy spots on my face. Not like normal ones, and they don't go away. More like hives or something. Attractive!

I suffered from chloasma or sometimes called melasma, whilst on the pill. I had been on it for a few years and my marks were quite bad - first around my eyes and then forehead. They used to really bother me - considering I don't tan and always wear high factor sun protection.

I came off the pill (not for that reason!) and have since had a daughter. I had been off the pill for about a year and by then the marks had totally disappeared (and mine were quite bad). Funnily enough i didn't get it back whilst pregnant.

Once your hormones settle you should notice the marks fading. You can use light tinted moisturiser with spf to blend if it bothers you at all. I imagine you will notice it fading soon and once the summer and sun are here and you get a natural bit of tan it'll blend a bit more.

Hi thanks for replies, glad its not just me! I assumed I should stay out of the sun to stop it getting worse but dont know if this is the case? I always wear moisturiser with SPF 15 every day & put stronger sunscreen on if its hot.

I developed a little brown circle to the left of my left eye when pregnant with dd.

This time I have a thin light brown line along the curve of my cheekbones. Makes me look like I've got sunken eye sockets so I'm not impressed.

Dh tried to suggest it was because I don't take my eye make up off and was very sceptical when I said it was a pregnancy thing.

So, I shall read him this thread. Thank you.

I had this a bit with first, but now my whole face is covered, except around my eyes!
It looks like I have fallen asleep in the sun with glasses on!
I catch the sun really quick whilst pregnant, so try to cover up o use high factor.
I do sometimes put a bit of fake tan around mys, to try and even it up, but doesn't really cover it. I've tried foundations, but again, I either look orange, or it doesn't cover it.
So now, I don't bother. If you don't like it - then don't look at me

ohnelly · 23/05/2010 16:53

del1 - thats what mine looks like! attractive sunglasses shape, at least the tash I had with DS1 has faded (eventually)

I have been pg and or BF for over 3 years now and have permanent(it feels) chloasma moustache and bizzarro circles over my eyebrows. I can't get rid of it completely but do FFS wear sunscreen as it gets sooo much worse in the sun!! lol
Am hoping by maybe 2014 to be normally hormoned. I can then go into menopause.........

del1 · 24/05/2010 22:27

ohnelly, I had a moustach with first. Can't decide which was the beat look?
What skin type are you?
I am quite olive skinned, and tan easily.
I read that it can affect darker skin tones more?

ohnelly · 26/05/2010 11:35

Hi again del1 - yes I am same skintone as you by the sounds of it. I tan easily & get freckles. I think the moustache was worse so im glad thats more or less gone anyway! Wonder what will happen if I have a 3rd baby? haha

Well, I wouldn't mind if I had it all over my face.
It would look good having a perminet tan. But stupid patches are just annoying !!
But, s'pose I shouldn't moan as there others with far worse things!
