Weekend away at 35 weeks?

I've just been given the opportunity to go and stay with DH at a really lovely hotel for free for a couple of nights in June. It sounds like heaven to me right now. The thing is, I'll be 35 weeks by then ~ is that too late to go away or am I worrying unnecessarily? It's about 3 1/2 hours drive from home.

We went away as a family when i was 34-35 weeks pregnant with DD3 - drive was about 3 hrs - I didn't bat an eyelid to be honest, just wanted to get away. Good idea to take your notes though

I'm due to go away at the beginning of June when I'll be 35 weeks. It's about 3.5 hours too.

I wouldn't if I could get out of it but it's a family wedding. THat's more because I can't be bothered with the journey with a toddler than worrying about going in to labour though.

what is it that worried you? is it the car journey? as long as you stop enough times ( probably to wee ) you will be fine. unless you are having particular problems with your back/hips/pelvis. i was driving right up to 42 weeks, although only shortish journeys of less than an hour

if its being so far from home, well i guess they probably have a maternity hospital where you are going. unless you are planning to give birth at home or in a small local birthing unit where you already know the midwives etc, it probably doesn't make much difference. as others have said, you will have your notes

the only thing would be that your baby would be in SCBU a few hours from home.

unless you think you are at high risk of a premature delivery, or you are in poor health, i woudl just go. and have a great time

I sure hope it will be ok - cos I'm in a similar situation with 2 overseas wedding planned (Europe) when I will be 34wks. Just before the cut off for being allowed to fly. This is my first preg so don't really know what I'm talking about, but I assumed that as long as it was a nice hotel, take it easy, leave lots of time etc etc all will be fine.
Good luck x

At 35 weeks I would have been too uncomfortable to have done a 3.5 hour car journey - a free hotel stay would not have been enough to entice me. I also have 2 friends who have recently given birth at 37 weeks... But if you do go, I used to find the little bump wedge pillow handy behind my back in the car.

We went on holiday 4.5 hours away when I was 38 weeks... for ten days.

I spent the entire time having massive BH, and even called the local hospital once to check I could just turn up and deliver if I needed to. (was a VBAC too, and discovered that I would probably be flown to the larger hospital an hour's drive away if it looked like a CS would be necessary...)

My waters broke 6 hours after we got home.

Have a lovely time!

Well, I think I will definitely go for it then ~ haven't had a break for so long! The hotel is known for its cakes, so I shall lounge around and gorge for two days. Thank you very much everyone for your advice.

Yep I say go for it too!!

We're off on holiday on 12th June - I'll be 33/34 weeks pregnant and I have SPD. I want to give my kids a chance to have me and dh all to ourselves before the new lo arrives

Have to admit I'm totally dreading the drive down there (I'm driving one car, dh driving the other). But I'll cope.

Hope you have a lovely time xxx

all to themselves that should have said, sorry. Think the sun is melting my brain
