Best big pants for post c-section?

Pant recommendations needed.

ELCS booked for just under 2 weeks, feeling surprisingly apprehensive.

I know I need big pants. Last time, I tried n failed with disposables and my own and ended up wearing DHs jersey boxers as they were the only thing that didn't irritate the scar.
So planning ahead, what shall I buy this time?
Am not a skinny mummy at the best of times and not sure if reg 'big pants' will be big enough?

Jojo have some hospital pants that are good for post section and allegedly fit all sizes. Am a bit about that!

In fact, the more I think about it, the more it is that Boots sell 'panties'.
v. wrong!

Do not buy those disposable things. They are never big enough for post-birth bloating and trying to get your sore bulk into a too-small pair of paper pants is humiliation defined.

I recommend M&S-in-the-sale-size-18-or-maybe-20-granny-pants. They are usually quite soft cotton, they come up to your natural waist, they are cheap and they come in rather large sizes. I am normally a size 12-14 and buy at least a size 18 for this purpose. When I had my first emcs I hadn't considered the pants question so on the way home from the hospital I had DH stop at M&S and hobbled in to buy three giant pairs of pants. They're all different sizes (18, 20 and 22 iirc) but all are comfy if somewhat baggy on the bum and they do the job.

Plus they are so unattractive that DH knows to stay away for the duration!

Lord, the last thing you wear after giving bith is panties. Mine are more tents. Or maybe marquees.

Poledra · 20/05/2010 09:37

I had supermarket granny pants, size 16 for a usually-size-12 belly. They were fab (and my MW thoroughly approved!) as cotton much nicer than paper and doesn't rub.

And yes, they were a cue for DH to Stay Away till the Granny Pants are Gone (used them after both my VBACs too, as they held the monster pads better).

Mooncupflowethover · 20/05/2010 13:28

Very stretchy, very comfy. They wash really well too. They're designed specifically for after C sections as they allow the air to circulate and improve healing, don't stick to the scar site either. I think they may come in different sizes, they're pretty cheap, so worth a shot.

Glad to see others appreciating their value!

Thanks everyone for your recommendations.

I am now the proud owner of some supermarket HUGE pants - very scary getting them out of the packet! - and several packs of the NCT ones are winging their way to me too.

I got the cheap Asda granny ones as well. I got size 14 which is 3 sizes bigger than I normally wear but didn't fancy even the slightest chance of rubbing...

Best of luck with the CS.

The problem with wearing granny pants too big is finding out how comfortable they are and so not wanting to go back to flossers!!!

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 20/05/2010 21:07

I have despatched the flossers in our house, never to be seen again. I regard them, in hindsight, as an instrument of torture.

trellism · 20/05/2010 21:46

DH bought me some M&S giant pants (known as "full briefs") and six months later, I am still wearing them .

Also, you know those rubbish breast pads (the kind that are £1 for 30 in Asda)? I stuck one of those to the inside of aforesaid giant pants to cushion the scar. Worked really well.

Portofino · 20/05/2010 21:53

I'm still wearing my giant pants 6 years on! Not the same pair I hasten to add!

Tobermory · 20/05/2010 21:54

I have shared some of these stories with DH.
He laughed but looked quite scared about the prospect of nothing but HUGE pants from this day forward!

They become immune after a while

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 21/05/2010 08:31

Tober as long as you reassure him they still come off when necessary he should be ok.

Beachbreak · 21/05/2010 08:45

After my c-section I wore M&S full brief no vpl two sizes larger than pre-pregnancy. This was actually same size as knickers I ended up wearing by the end if my pregnancy but the material was so soft and stretchy that it didn't rub or irritate at all and they came up high over my scar. I highly recommend them.

Tobermory · 21/05/2010 09:02

Libra, I'm 38 weeks pg, can't sleep, swollen feet, SPD, nothing fits, heartburn and right now would be more than happpy if they never came off again!

Ha, wait until you are 41 weeks pregnant and you want his sperm to try and induce labour!!

Tobermory · 22/05/2010 10:55

mosschops I washed my bug pants yesterday in preperation, I can see where the confusion came from!

mooncup NCT ones arrived today and OMG they are just like MILs dishcloths. Possibly even less attrractive than big pants!!

Libras, that would be the very last resort!
