cot with wheels?

Why is it so difficult to find a good not so expensive cot with wheels? Can anyone suggest a reliable online or shop in west london please? Also DH thinks we can buy wheels from IKEA and kind of put them on a normal cot. Any ideas if this may work?

The Stokke Sleepi has wheels, it isn't cheap in the shops, but you can get good deals online.

If you add your own wheels, remember to take them off when the little one is big enough to stand up holding onto the bars, my cousins baby was able to propel himself across the room on the wheels using weight distribution!

Try Tutti Bambini, perhaps? They're based in London and most of their cots seem to have optional wheels. Check the descriptions rather than relying on the pictures, as the wheels aren't always fitted in the pics.

I ended up ordering a cot from them direct (Jenny model) at the London Baby Show back in February with a mattress, rather than visiting their store or using their online systems. So I can't comment on either of those, sorry!

However I can say that the cot arrived by the promised date, flat packed. There was a minor issue with delivery, but that was the delivery company screwing up rather than Tutti Bambini, and it was resolved quickly. (There were two parcels, cot and mattress, and the delivery company accidentally separated them and sent one to the wrong depot. Many apologies later, it was delivered on a Sat morning.)

My DH and I assembled the cot with no problems, and it had a choice whether or not to attach the included wheels. We'd also ordered an optional drawer section to go underneath, no problems with getting that fixed in either.

LO isn't born yet so I can't say how well it'll work for then, but it seems study enough thus far and I've had no problems with the drop side mechanism or the wheels. It's only in a tiny room, so I've had to shunt it around a bit while getting the nursery prepared.

Hope that helps!

We bought the Stokke; it's not cheap (not even the excellent deal we got online!), but it's beautiful, and we won't have to buy another bed for baby beanlet until it's 7 years old. So it's an investment.

I really wouldn't DIY wheels on your cot - recipe for disaster.

Most bedside cots - the kind with sides that drop completely away so that you can have your mattress flush with the baby's - seem to have wheels, to enable you to push the cot away from your bed I guess.
We got a Mothercare one on freecycle, it's a bit like this one:

Thank you so much burmesegrumbler the Stokke Sleepi is a bit too expensive for me. The cheapest I found online was 369, which is okay if I had a proper nursery but we will move in the next year and I won't make a proper nursery.

yayy... Spirael you are the best!!! I love Jenny model and I also found a white cot (Claudia) on wheels in tutti bambini for 89 GBP. Sounds fab! I think I may go with Jenny though and sorry for copying but feel much better knowing that someone else has tried it and prefer to get it than a new model. All their cots look fab and they have a sale on!

Thanks!

Dear Spirael one more question re Jenny cot bed, can the side come down enough to put the cot beside your bed?

Oh yes, the Stokke Sleepi can indeed be extended from crib to cot to a bed and functions as a sofa or can even break down to a couple of chairs afterwards, but be careful, not all the online packages give you every stage and then whenever you grade up you need a new mattress, only Stokke's own fit....

Stokke's sheets etc are very expensive - but you can fold any sheet over and tuck underneath, so I didn't bother buying theirs. The biggest rip off is the disgusting polyester canopy on the crib, best part of £60! My mum made one for me from lovely white lawn cotton instead, the fabric cost £7 and it only took her 30 mins to cut, hem and pop a few pleats in the top.

The Jenny cot isn't really designed for being a bed-side cot, but I'll go and get some measurements for you...

With the side dropped down, the top of the side is 78cm up from the ground. My bed (divan/mattress) appears to be 58cm tall, so assuming yours is similar you'd have 20cm or so of side bar rising up between you and the cot if you pulled it next to the bed with the side down.

The cot mattress can be set on three different levels, the top level would mean a gap of only a few cm between where the baby is and the side of the cot when dropped down, but they'd be a bit higher than you.

The middle setting I think would pretty much line up the mattress with the big bed. And I guess when putting the cot together you could always omit fitting the drop down side entirely for as long as the cot was next to the bed, and add it in later when it was needed!

However I'm not sure whether it'd be safe to have such an arrangement, I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me will come along and contribute regarding that! My bedroom isn't big enough to fit a cot beside the bed, so I didn't really have that concern when planning. I've gone for a moses basket and stand next to the bed initially.

Hee, and I wouldn't think of it as copying so much as following a recommendation. Personally, I'm just glad that my research is helpful to someone! Other people on MN have been so helpful to me when I've been getting everything sorted, it's nice to pass on some of the karma to someone else!

Spirael You are an angel thank you so much!!! this is so helpful!! Considering your comments, I think I will rather use it as a standing cot on it's own rather than a bed-side cot. I can't wait to get my hands on that cot!

THANKS!
