hi

after many atempts of taking my blood , the results finally came through with hypothyroidism( never heard of it b4).
i am about 9 weeks pregnant and only started 2b treated for it today as i wasnt aware of this condition before.
i ve seen on internet that not treated it can cause a lot of problem to the unborn baby :autism , low IQ, malformation, birth deffect...
its my 1st pregancy and i am really scared now since i only started medication on the 9th week...
has anyone experienced the same?

First, and this is said in the kindest possible way, stop reading random articles on the internet. :-)

It is true that severe maternal hypothyroidism can cause problems but they really are very rare. I don't know what your blood results were but the important thing is that you are on the right treatment now and that this isn't being untreated.

You might be referred to an endocrinologist (a hormone specialist) for monitoring during the pregnancy, but, being one of them, I would not generally expect major problems and would be taking a fairly hands off approach. Hopefully they will be able to reassure you as well.

This is a good information leaflet on hypothyroidism in pregnancy: www.dundee.ac.uk/medther/tayendoweb/images/hypothyroidism_during_pregnancy.htm

All the best for an otherwise uncomplicated pregnancy. :-)
