Wind.

I'm 10.5 weeks. Absolutely no constipation (the opposite) and no nausea now so diet is very good. Lots of fruits, veg, fibre, protein etc. But lots of (trapped and otherwise) wind, gassy uncomfortable stomach. Can be really quite painful, especially at night.

What can I take to ease it that's safe?

Thanks

Having someone rub your lower back helps me.

A nice cup of peppermint tea helps me.

I make it with fresh leaves from a pot outside, but the teabags seem just as good (taste is better fresh though). It just seems to free everything up.

I take a cup to bed and have a lie down and it all sort of goes away...

there might be a certain combo of foods that makes it worse - the two bad nights I have had (only 8wks) was after eating a pasta/puy lentil/black bean/pea/broccoli dish. I can eat them all without too much problem, even some of them combined, but the full mix was too much!

lie on your left side to help it pass

I think it is the food - but I like vegetables and pulses and fruits. It's sods law that if I ate white carbs I'd probably be fine.

I just bought some nettle and peppermint tea and I've been drinking lemon with hot water all day, which apparently is meant to help.

I also think that the smaller the meal, the better - I don't mind grazing, so hopefully that will help

It's unpleasant though - not one of the symptoms my DP is appreciating!! Welcome to my world...

I've no idea if this is safe when pg so you would need to check, but my sister has a problem with wind at the best of times (she's not expecting) and takes charcoal tablets which seem to really help.

I've had some really terrible pain with trapped wind since being pregnant - at one point it was so bad my DH wanted to take me to hospital because he couldn't believe I could be in so much pain from 'just' trapped wind. I recommend a warm bath, a hot water bottle, rubbing lower back and tummy. Mint is really good for the digestive system so mint tea (made with fresh mint leaves just stuffed in a cup of hot water is nicest) and you can buy mint oil tablets over the counter which can help (or I got them on pescription as the chemist wouldn't sell them me when I said I was preganant, but the doctor said they were fine). I have had to reduce (though not cut out entirely) wheet which can be bad for wind as it is hard to digest and can sit in your intestines and ferment which causes lots of gas that is hard to pass. Eating more oats can help some people, and there was something a bit like oats I was recomended to sprinkle on top of ceral or the like which is suposed to help, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called (I never managed to find any to try actually). On a more positive note, I'm much better now at 28 weeks then I was in the first 3 - 4 months. Earlier was definately worse for me, my thoery on that being my body adjusted to the hormonal changes that slow down your digestive system in pregnancy, so I'm back on toast for breakfast now! Try researching around irritable bowl syndrom for things to avoid or try as it's the same sort of issue, but just caused temprarily by preganncy.
