Hello all and thanks for reading!
I just wanted some company from anyone who had IVF. My hubbie and I have just had IVf for the first time and this morning I did the test and its positive (Yay!) but i'm so nervous and worrying a bit early perhaps, but what's it like and do i need to do/not do anything in particular?
The clinic I'm at have been really good and positive but its hard to know what its like when this has never happened before and obviously i want it to go well. But my stomach is full of question marks...

and a great site by the way...!

Congratulations Seqqy - what wonderful news!!

I haven't had IVF myself but I know 3 couples who have lovely babies as a result of IVF. Best of luck for a healthy and happy pregnanacy!
xx

thanks EMS23, its tough when you spend first half your active sex life trying not get pregnant then next part of your life trying to get pregnant and wondering "why not me?" and also when freinds seem to get pregnant by the drop of a hat.

I will try to stay calm, be positive, and look forward to some scans soon....

Congratulations, thats wonderful news!

I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Hey Seggy

Congratulations! That is brilliant news. Especially as it's your first go. What a relief not to have go through all that again. I am pg with an IVF baby too. 2nd attempt for me and I am now 14 weeks. Despite trying for 3.5 years, a number of ops and 2 rounds of IVF it was still a shock getting that BFP. I was delighted. But shocked. Which lasted a couple of weeks

Do you have to continue with any of the drugs or have you stopped them all? I had progesterone until wk 12 and am now drug free. First time in 18 months. And baby seems to be doing a stirling job according to the scans. I couldnt be happier.

My only tip would be to see a dr and get referred for antenatal care sooner rather than later. I was so worried about tempting fate I didnt go to my GP till I was discharged from my clinic after my 6 wk scan which resulted in my 1st antenatal visit being just last week! Though your GP may move a bit quicker than mine.

Anyway, good luck with it all. I wish you a happy healthy 9 months. Happy celebrating!!!!!

Eddie xx

thanks eddy26, thats a good point, I best let them know, in fact i think my clinic has given me a letter to send to my GP but it was optional.

I still have to do one more test next week, just to make sure and I am taking the pogesterone now.

congrats on your pg, its such an odd but fantastic feeling isn't it?

It still hasn't sunk in yet...

My first baby is an ivf (or rather icsi) baby. It really is hard to believe the result isn't it?

I took progesterone (sp) pessaries for two week wait then nothing. Had a scan at 6 weeks at clinic (found heart beat ) and after that just the same standard maternity care as everyone else.

So, first time I saw a midwife was at the 12 week scan (when I was about 14 weeks).

Enjoy your pregnancy. I think the part I enjoyed the most was saying those words "I am pregnant" to family and friends. Never thought I would say them and the second best thing was the happiness I could see everyone felt for us.

Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Hi Seggy,

Congratulations! Now you realise that however long the wait between embryo transfer and testing seemed, the wait for the first scan seems interminable!

As well as the brilliant support you'll get on here, can I also suggest:

www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php

where you'll find loads of other IVFers, too.

Seqqy · 20/05/2010 19:09

thanks for that, i'll check it out. Wow there are so many in the same boat, I dont feel so small now :-)

Hi there,

I'm 36 weeks pregnant with an IVF baby (Hammersmith) after two attempts. The Fertility Friends forum as above is great for finding people in the same boat (most pregnant women have fears etc but is nice to talk to people who've been on same journey).

What you do depends on your clinic. At Hammersmith on a fresh cycle they only support with progesterone for two weeks after the egg collection. So once you get a positive there you just have an early scan to check everything is okay and then you're released to your gp. I had some early bleeding so had three scans before my 'release' - luckily everything seems to be fine.

I did find it quite hard to relax and enjoy my pregnancy, especially after the early bleeding (and as it took so long to get a bfp, I was always worried about it getting taken away from me), but it does get easier with each milestone - heartbeat, 12week scan, 20 week scan, feeling movement, getting huge bump, etc.

Lots of luck!

DomesticG0ddess · 20/05/2010 19:35

I have no idea, but I just wanted to say congratulations!

Seqqy · 20/05/2010 20:07

cheers guys, and thats interesting Helen, becuase the clinic i'm at says that they want to prevent any chances of a "Biochemical" Positive? I mean, my stick went positive in 2 seconds, i think my body is telling me it should be fine, but what do i know for sure?

When I questioned the nurse about the Biochemical (I think she called it a biochemical pregnancy) she didnt seem to confident in her answer, maybe i should ask around.

anyone else heard of that?

"My stomach is full of question marks", what a great way of putting it, I know what you mean!!

Just wanted to say a big congratulations, you must be so pleased. Very best of luck for a smooth pregnancy.

DuelingFanjo · 21/05/2010 11:21

Hi there Seqqy

Congratulations. I am just over 10 weeks with an IVF baby. The first few weeks of pregnancy are really quite scary and because I was one of the lucky people who had no morning sickness I was quite worried for a while but have had 2 scans now and everything seems good. They released me into the care of my GP after the first scan at 7 weeks but did another at 9 weeks to reassure me, possibly because I had previously miscarried at 8 weeks.

When they use the word biochemical it's probably the same thing as a chemical pregnancy and I think that is just when the embryo doesn't stay attached but your body has started to produce hCG but the pregnancy wasn't viable and you lose it very early on. Lots of women don't even know they have had a chemical prregnancy because they bleed before they have even tested and assume their period is starting. I think that's what it is.

I was told not to test until 16 days after the transfer and I think they say that so I didn't test too early and then get disappointed. I somehow managed to stick to that and only tested after 16 days but was still quite scared it might not stick.

I am still on the progesterone pessaries now but from next week will go down to one a day and then nothing.

Try to enjoy it and not to worry too much. I know it's ridiculous saying that though we all worry.

HelenFF · 21/05/2010 11:49

Biochemical/chemical pregnancies can be quite common (don't mean to patronise, explaining for anyone who reads), they just mean it implants enough to start producing hormones (and a positive pregnancy test), but that the pregnancy fails before a baby is seen on a scan. A lot of people find it a horrible term because whether the only evidence of a pregnancy is hormones or not, it's a miscarriage either way.

So it's common for IVF clinics to do an early scan - to check for things like that, but also that the pregnancy is in the right place and so on.

How will they prevent a chemical, do they mean with progesterone?

DuelingFanjo · 21/05/2010 11:58

As far as I am aware the progesterone is given as a support incase the disruption of the egg collection has stopped your body from producing enough progesterone. I think that's it, I read it somewhere anyway

cyteen · 21/05/2010 13:11

DuelingFanjo just wanted to say a huge congratulations on your pregnancy. I know it's been a fair journey for you (only from general reading, not stalking you or anything) and I wish you a lovely stress free pregnancy and birth

Same goes to you Seqqy and everyone else here having those much-wanted babies. I have family members going through this at the moment, so far unsuccessfully, so it's great to hear your positive stories!

DuelingFanjo · 21/05/2010 13:20

Aw thank you cyteen

Seqqy · 25/05/2010 06:51

Congrats on your pregnancy DuelingFanjo, its great news!
Thanks for the info, i see what it is now. I suppose its still early days and any stage can be risky, and sometimes its hard to know when its suitable to tell people as the next few weeks can be still hard to go.

As for my update, I did my second stick and its still positive, so I'll tel lmy clinic and go for a scan in a few weeks!

Yay! Alcohol free champers all round!
