Stylish nursing chair?

Proper nursing chairs seem like orthopaedic shoes - comfy and frumpy. Are there any stylish options out there? Found this Eames-style rocking chair, do you think one will be actually comfortable spending hours in it breastfeeding?

Or perhaps I should just abandon the conceit...

i never used mine for nursing in, because the arms got in the way;
they were too high for me to lean on, and once the baby was bigger he just kept kicking them!

so now i have a beautiful proper nursing chair a bit like this one

tis perfect!

Sorry, can't see your link but I'd avoid any 'nursing chair', better to get one that you feel comfy sitting in that has no arms - because when baby grows, chair arms get in the way of legs/head. Actually I just stuck with our couch during the day, used extra cushions behind me so that my back was well supported. At night, I sat on our bed, again with pillows to keep my back comfy. I also didn't bother with a 'widgy' pillow in the end, a firm normal pillow did the trick just fine.

Although, following thisisyesterday's post, at home my Mum has a nursing chair used by either my grandmother or her mother, similar to this one and it is very comfortable - and doesn't take up much space.

Thank you both, these do look really nice! For some reason I assumed that nursing chairs should rock, but seeing your examples it seems that the rocking motion is not really that important, whilst wide arms (or none) are rather essential. Any other tips?

Main thing is that your back is comfortable and you don't have to stoop/hunch over baby (hence firm pillows to put baby on, lifts baby nearer to milk supply). As you might be there for a while have a table/surface nearby for water/juice etc; also I managed to read quite a lot of books while breastfeeding so leave a pile within reach (or remote control for TV if in sitting room). Final tip is to have somewhere nearby to put baby if they fall asleep. Sitting with a sleeping baby on you sometimes is lovely but other times it's really nice to get some sleep yourself...

Hope it goes well!

Numpty Mum, thank you for the tips!

Oh joy, one can read whilst breastfeeding! Apologies for my naivete, I was preparing myself for a long stretch sans books or anything more intellectual than Twinkle, twinkle, little star!..

I wasn't exactly reading anything intellectual - Dick Francis, if I recall!

Main tip is to get help when you first start breastfeeding, if you don't get good position or if baby struggles with latching it can be sore (or perhaps I should say more sore, I found it sore anyway to start with). Persevere though, and use Lansinoh cream, and it really is an easy option - no worries about baby getting hungry when you're out and about, just find somewhere discreet and cuddle up. I amazed myself by keeping going until DS was 2yo!! Due again at the end of June so will be back on that learning curve soon...

I have a lovely one which is Swedish, very streamline, no armrests but has amazing lumbar support which you can adjust to your needs. I bought if from Baby Concierge, i can't remember the make but if you ring them, they might be able to tell you. am pretty sure it came from Sweden.

moonstorm · 19/05/2010 15:08

this?

Umnitsa · 19/05/2010 23:25

It does look beautiful (I think I am looking at the right one... it does not say Made in Sweden but is streamlined and without arms)! Somewhat pricey but definitely worth considering, thank you, S999.
