Agonising hips/pelvis after long walk around town - normal?

Have been traipsing round town today for a good four hours with DD and the pushchair and am now in absolute agony in my hips and pelvis area. My nethers are burning. I thought I had thrush recently but saw the dr who wasn't sure and did a swab which was negative. I've only had thrush once before (last time I was pg) so not v familiar with it.

I've felt like before after a bit of a walk, and to be honest my body is just so shit at being pg that I tend to just assume these things are normal and fine, but am wondering if this sounds like SPD or similar. I didn't have SPD last time round (or if I did again it was something I just put down to being normal aches and pains of pregnancy), but I did have problems with my sacroiliac joints (so on the outside of my hips, which I thought was sciatica but wasn't) which was quite debilitating, even at an early stage (was worst at 14 weeks so wasn't even a size issue). Just wondering if I should mention it to my GP or midwife. Is SPD something that is made worse by activity. I'm not too bad at other times, though again I never feel great in pregnancy and just learn to accept a lot of aches and pains. But I marvel (for that read want to smack in the face) all the people who are apparently playing badminton or working in a busy hospital right up until the day they give birth. I've been sleeping really badly and people keep telling me to exercise and it sounds like I am being lazy and making excused but I just think 'how'?

Any advice?

SPD is not just pain in the fanny region, it can be in hips, cocyx (!) lower back etc.
Tske paracetemal, put hot water bottle on and sit on your backside tomorrow ! All day!

Call doctor and ask for referral to womens health physio team at local hosp. They will give you lots of advice, perhaps a belt to support hips. Sleep with pillow between knees and ankles, do not lift anything, stand on one leg or cross your legs at all. Keep knees together when climbing in car etc.

Yes, rest is best!

it does sound like SPD - mine got worse after exercise. How many weeks are you?

The Pelvic Partnership website is really helpful.

Definitely mention it to MW - it can get worse at the end of pg but there are some coping mechanisms that really help such as keeping your legs together when getting out of bed / car and some simple physio moves.

Am 21 weeks. Have been aching in my coccyx too recently but thought SPD was just at the front and again just assumed it was all just normal pregnancy niggles. And sometimes when I sleep I feel really tender on the outside of my thigh when I am laying on it and it aches down my leg. Not sure if that is just me laying on my sciatic nerve or not. What with that and the cramps I have just started getting my legs and hips are in a pretty crap state!

I have an 'open appointment' (not sure what that means exactly) with the physio as I did something to my neck a month or so ago so went for that so I will call them again.

my first preg was all in my cocyx - i couldn't sit down at all with any comfort. And had the outside thigh pain you describe.
My hips were shot after birth for such a long time, I had to have more physio.

this preg is all in my fanny! More painful but better because I can sit down all the time.

Sitting on the floor is a killer, in both preg. I would recommend you def have a change unit for baby, I didn't as just got on the floor for nappy time, and this was my downfall.

i agree with the others, it sounds like SPD, which can present in many forms as its essentially the ligaments doing the wrong thing/too early. my SPD is mainly one sided with occaisonal central 'kicked in the crotch' type pain.

talk to the midwife or GP, get a referral to the physio.
my SPD was fairly mild and i was able to work until i tried to walk a few miles one night out. i also have quite bad thigh pain with my SPD, although its mainly sciatic.

try sleeping on your side, if your not already, one side will more likely me more comfortable than the other

take a few days to rest as much as possible, put your feet up and do nothing, whilst waiting for a physio referral for advice, support belt and general support
