Weirdly dry skin during pregnancy - nutritional deficiency?

I am nearly 20 wks with my DC2. The skin on my body has gone so dry it's scaly! I didn't have this last time, and I have been putting lots of oil and cream on but skin things tend to come from within and I just wondered if anyone had this and does it mean I am deficient in something? I should add I am drinking lots of fluids as I am so blinkin' thirsty all the time (didn't have this last time either!)

My skin has been sooo bad this time too (21 wks with DC3). I've been really itchy too.

I'm drinking lots to keep hydrated (I have HG) but I'm not particularly thirsty. Maybe you should get that checked out.

Anyway, nothing was working for me on my skin so the dr gave me a prescription for an emollient. I use it twice a day and can use it as a soap alternative too.

My skin is still very dry, but the scaliness is now limited to my hands.

Its worth seeing if your GP will give you something to try - and mention the thirstiness too.

Thanks Merlin. I am seeing my consultant in a fortnight, I will mention it then I think. As to the thirst, I was worrying about gestational diabetes but apparently it is too early for that to be manifesting itself.

my first thought was GD, and it's NOT too early for that to manifest at 20 weeks, you could get it at any point - as it's possible you may already have had some type of insulin resistance before pregnancy. dip-sticks to test for sugar in the urine at your early antenatals wouldn't always pick that up, so it might still be worth looking into, just in case. The thirsty-all-the-time is a bit of a red flag!!

Mmm, thanks oldmum, I will get it checked sooner rather than later, then.

i have the same dry scaley skin, have got a prescription for diprobase cream which is helping, you can get it over the counter (if you ask pharmasist) but obviously free on prescription
