I'm 11 weeks pregnant on Wednesday, I have a 3 yr old DD - who I am unsure as to wether she has had chicken pox or not (I have had it 3 times as a child).

What is the danger / risks if DD gets it?

I had a similar scare when I was in the early stages of pregnancy.

I called my midwife, who got my 'booking in' blood tests screened for immunity. I was really unsure as I'd had it once as a child but my brother had it twice so I wasn't sure if I'd be immune.

Sorry to say that there is quite a danger to your baby before about 20 weeks if you do get it again.

I think I'd avoid your friend, if I were you. Just in case.

Oh, months ago she had a few spots that crusted over, on her torso etc - was never confirmed as CP, took her to DR for some thin g else and GP said they looked like CP but he would expect more spots than that.

I have def had it 3 times. just phoned my older sister to confirm - so, IM going out YAY

It would be worth getting a blood test to ensure you have immunity before you come into contact with it....

ConDemNation · 10/05/2010 18:49

Erm, OWO - the fact you had it three times suggests you may be lacking in immunity to it. That means you could get it again, with potentially disastrous consequences for your baby.

Sorry - I wouldn't go.

dairymum · 10/05/2010 18:53

it is possible to get an immunisation. it doesnt last forever like some do, but i'd speak to your gp. i had jag when expecting my second, now expecting no3. one downside of injection is its a MASSIVE needle.

OnlyWantsOne · 10/05/2010 19:05

I will my GP and ask for a blood test to see if immune.

According to my sister, last time I had it, at age 9 - I had it really badly

that is reassuring. The point of having had it is that usually it will confer lifelong immunity...and if in your case it didn't there could be a propensity there.

Hopefully the last time sorted it out though.

OnlyWantsOne · 10/05/2010 19:25

its inevitable that my DD will get it though, if she hasnt all ready had it, as its always coming and going at her nursery school
