I am 12 weeks now and I am having the sh1test time! I have been to the hospital put on the drip for dehydration 4 times now and they told me I have hyperemesis. I feel like this is never going to end I just want to feel normal again I am sick all day and night AND NOTHING HELPS, constipated but cant eat anything to help it coz it just comes straight back up. and I look DISGUSTING! i go for days without showering bcoz i cant stand up for long and the smells of soap etc are just too strong.

I love my baby but I am scared I'm going to resent it for what it has put me through and am finding it hard to be excited about being preg.

Does any1 else out there have hyperemesis???

poor you!! No experience of this, but bumping for you. I've seen a lot of posts on hyperemesis on here, someone will be along soon to help (it might be a bit late and bumping in the morning will help)

thinker · 10/05/2010 00:24

Sounds dreadful, can they give you any anti sickness/nausea medication ? Can`t give any practical advice but want to be supportive. Wish I could come round and rub your back and give you a bed bath xxx

ktwiltshire · 10/05/2010 01:25

im sorry that this just isnt going away or getting any better. in the more extreme cases there are medications they can give you to help, but its up to the drs whether the benefits outweigh the risk, sounds pretty much like it should with you!!

i havent got hyperemesis, but i do have a disabling pregnancy related condition that has got me at the end of my teather somewhat, and will only be relieved with the birth, so i can imagine to some degree the frustration and impossible situation you are in.

i know its hard, impossible sometimes, but try to remember that it is worth it. i take it this is your first baby?

pregoDragn · 10/05/2010 02:52

Thanks for all your support yes this is my first baby, ive got medication that is given to cancer patients so I can at least keep some fluids down but I am sick pretty much every time I eat or drink anything other than a weak milo even water makes me sick.

I feel sorry for my partner bcoz all I do is complain about feeling sick and im always in a grump not to mention looking gross 24/7.

I dont understand how ppl can say they love being preg and they get that "glow"

Its an awful thought that the only way im gna feel better is to go through labour in 6 months lol that is a scary thought!

I have hperemesis but not as badly as you, am on cyclizine which has stopped me being sick and reduced the nausea to the point where i can eat, although it makes me feel lousy it at least means i have enough energy to look after DD.
So sorry that you have ended up on a drip, there is a thread on here which has lots of supportive people called hyperemesis awareness.
apparently lots of sufferers stop getting it by 21 weeks so there is a bit of hope.

TootaLaFruit · 10/05/2010 08:05

I've no experience of this but really feel for you, pregnancy can be hard even in straight-forward cases, so this sounds awful. Please don't worry about resenting your baby though, when they are born you are going to love them so much and I promise (unlikely as it seems now) that you will forget all about the horrible first few months.

ps. Nobody really gets that 'glow', by the way. Whenever I've been told I'm glowing is when I've used a lovely bronzer/blusher combo. Applied with a light hand and nobody can tell! (Benefit Hoola bronzer and a peachy MAC blusher, btw).

Hi pregoDragn I am on my 2nd HG pg (but on the mild end of the spectrum as have always managed to stay out of of hospital so far, touch wood) - just wanted to reassure you that you CAN do it and it WILL be worth it in the end.
If they drug they've given you isn't working ask to swap - different drugs seem to work for different people.
Lots and lots of sympathy.

scotsgirl23 · 10/05/2010 09:21

Hi

I suffered from hyperemesis too, and it sucks so I completely sympathise with how you are feeling. I'm presuming that if it's the drug given to cancer patients you may be on metaclopramide? (My aunt was having chemo and was on this at the same time as me)

It might be worth asking the doctor if there are any drugs you can combine it with or anything else they can try. I found it was only by taking two drugs at once (meta plus cyclizine) that I started to get anywhere. One seemed to help more with the physical vomiting, and one with the nausea. This was just my experience though.

Although hyperemesis is truly shit, try to take comfort in the fact that it may well not stay the whole way - it doesn't for everyone. I was signed off work to begin with, managed to go back at about 16 weeks and was drug free by about 20 weeks.

Also, if you can bear it then experiment with random foods and drinks to see if anything stays put. At this point, sod being healthy, if there is even the mildest chance it will stay put then try it. I found the strangest things stayed down - couldn't eat anything healthy and water came straight back up, but super noodles and irn bru worked! I generally found if I had a craving, no matter how bizarre it was, then it was best to give in to it and quickly, as it was quite often a sign (say 50% of the time) that this was something my body would tolerate.

Try to keep your chin up - easier said than done, this is my first pg too and it's been utterly crap! Everyone I know has had relatively OK pregnancies so don't tend to understand that no, I'm not 'blooming' or feeling wonderfully feminine or anything even like it.

Hi,

So sorry to hear what you're going through. I've had hyperemesis since week 4 and am now in week 22 and have been a regular in hospital all the way through. It's not like anything I've ever experienced and has caused some of the toughest months of my life so I can really sympathise with how hopeless you feel. My partner and I normally have such a happy relationship so it's put him under enormous pressure too. I've found enormous support on the ' hyperemesis awareness' thread on here- it really helps knowing that people completely understand what I'm going through. I've tried to put a link to it but have failed- it should be on page 3 or 4 of the discussion threads.

The good news is that there should be a light at the end of the tunnel. Many people I've spoken to say that theirs has improved as the pregnancy has gone on. In the last week the combination of drugs that I'm on seems to have started to work and I'm gradually starting to get the actual being sick under control- I feel so happy that I feel a tiny bit more like my normal self! I have a close friend who was hospitalised twenty times during her pregnancy with hyperemesis. She now has a beautiful, healthy six month old daughter with whom she's besotted. She said it's incredible how even hours after the birth you begin to stop feeling sick and start to forget about what you've been through.

Hang in there and keep posting whenever you feel that you need support. As all the replies show, there are lots of us who care and can imagine something of what you're going through. Good luck. X

Hi sorry your feeling soo crap, I had hypremesis with DD1 and the only thing that made me feel marginally better was being hospitalised on a drip. Once the sickness got a bit better (25weeks) I had SPD and couldnt walk, I really had a hideous pregnancy but in a funny way I was relieved it was me suffering not my bump and the relief of having her was immense.
Im not expecting DC4 after suffering a brain bleed and severe SPD with DC2 (DC3 was a walk in the park, strangely) so if Im going through this for the fourth time in 6 years it is definately worth it.
I found treating myself to a pregnancy treat massage or nice maternity clothes made me a bit happier.
Hope it gets better x

vicbar · 10/05/2010 10:48

Sorry that should be now instead of not - I have a huge bump so I know she's in there

pregoDragn · 11/05/2010 00:22

It's so good to have sympathy! although family support is good they don't really know what you are going through at all, and it's good to know I'm not the only one going through this although it sux any of us have to feel like this.

I have tried about 5 diff drugs and found Zofran is the best for me. Ice cream seems to go down ok and when it comes back up it tastes pretty much the same lol most foods make me want to throw up just thinking about them specially MC DONALDS! YUK!!! and meat they would be the worse 2 foods right now.

Some ppl dont know how lucky they are having a normal pregnancy i read blogs from them complaining bcoz they feel fat...id rather feel fat than be sick all day everyday They are so lucky!

I'm on cyclizine too and at 30 weeks am still puking. Tbh it's better than it was - I puke now and it's all over - I've not got that crushing nausea 24/7.

On a practical note, I put a plastic stool in the shower so I could sit down and shower - I could not have stood up to take a shower. I sat on the edge to brush my hair. I had a sit down after getting dressed. Just try and make life as easy as possible.

"Glow"? Oh, the eczema or cold sores you mean?

skihorse · 11/05/2010 07:07

"sat on the edge" + of the bath
