Hi all,

Have just had my 16 week check up although am 17 weeks and 4 days but have just found out that I am rhesus negative and that this may cause problems with the baby/labour etc...

Please tell me I am worrying over nothing and that everything will be ok!

Thank you all so much! I think that I just wasn't expecting it and it sounds so much scarier than it actually is! But so lovely to hear that it doesn't cause any problems!

and thanks RedFraggle will call Doc's straight away if I have any bleeding! You have all been fab! Much apprectiated!

Bigstripeytiger- Is there a negative affect from the injection? Any reason that I wouldn't want it?

xx

The injection is make from blood products (ie other people's blood) so there is a very tiny risk due to that (its obvious very carefully screened etc) - but this risk is more than offset against the risk of not having it. Hope that helps.

TBH, the anti-D jab hurt me less than my daily injection of heparin(Clexane) - I barely noticed it (in my arm).

Nothing to worry about in general terms - it's an excellent prophylactic plan that has saved many many lives.

Nothing to worry about! I am negative so was my first baby then my second was positive and I just had the anti d.

Honestly no biggie!!

As mumNW said, the risk of Anti-D is very low, but obviously the risk/benefit ratio is quite different if the baby has a rhesus -ve father, than if the father is Rh +ve.

Agree with other posters. Def get your Dh tested. Mine turned out to be negative also so I didn't have to bother with the injections and at least I knew the score when it come to dc2.
