10.5w pregnant - where have my symptoms gone?

vmcd28 · 05/05/2010 08:33

I am 10w 5d today, but for the past 2 days I have felt great. I had pretty constant nausea and fatigue before then, but the symptoms appear to have gone. My midwife said yesterday that it is normal for MS to ease at this stage, but I feel more than that - I'm feeling full of energy and have no nausea, and suddenly have a proper appetite in the evenings again.

I'm trying not to worry, but it's hard not to.

Anyone else experienced this?

Oh my god, I am longing for this day. I have read that this is completely normal but imagine it feels weird when you've felt so rough. I am 10wks today, hopefully I'll feel great in 5 days. Here's hoping!

vmcd28 · 05/05/2010 09:00

it's weird cos I've been desperate to feel better, but I expected it to be a gradual thing, not all of a sudden. It's a bit unnerving.

I'm 9+5, and I find my symptoms come and go - I have days where I'm so exhausted I can't move and feel sick all day, and others where I feel absolutely fine.

I'm sure you have nothing to worry about, but I completely understand why you are.

EggsandBacon · 05/05/2010 09:47

Sorry to hijack, but I have the same thing and was worrying about it today!! I'm only 8+1, but I was feeling sick (finally) all over the weekend and today it's gone. I know I should be pleased, it's just that I had a mmc last time so I like having all the symptoms for reassurance!! I am just crossing my fingers that it's all normal, I have heard that the symptoms can come and go.

xx

LutyensWantsAFryUp · 05/05/2010 10:04

vmcd, I'm 10 weeks exactly and my nausea and fatigue vanished 2 days ago. Pretty much overnight, like you say. I confess, it has me worried too. So much so, that I've been pretending to feel nauseous when dh is around

They do say that first trimester symptoms should go by this point, but that doesn't stop you worrying, does it?

vmcd28 · 05/05/2010 10:19

thanks for the reassuring comments. Any more comments would be even more reassuring .

eggsandbacon, I remember now that the same thing happened at 8ish weeks with me. I felt good for 2 days, then it all came back.
The difference for me this time is that this is now day 3 of feeling good.

It hasnt helped that I hired a fetal doppler, and have not been able to find the heartbeat since last Thurs. I KNOW i'm early to use it, and most people said they and midwives struggle to find it at this point, but it doesnt exactly help!!

OP posts:
PrivetDancer · 05/05/2010 10:26

Well I'm around 12 weeks and i can't find the heartbeat at all with my doppler. Keep telling myself it's far too early and I don't know what I'm doing . Did you actually manage to find it last thursday?

I also have days of feeling fine, in general I've been feeling a lot better since about 8 weeks. Try not to worry - you must have a scan in a week or two?

vmcd28 · 05/05/2010 10:29

privetdancer, I found it last Thursday, eventually. I couldnt find it at all, then got up, had a walk around, and finally found it. It sounded exactly like my own heartbeat (the kind of rhythmic whooshing), but quite a bit faster. However, I now keep doubting myself, since I havent found it since!! But I spent 15 mins last night trying to find it, and the most I could find was the whooshing placenta noise, and my own heartbeat makes an appearance regularly too. It says to use it every 2-3 days, so I'll have to wait till tomorrow or friday to try again. I got it for reassurance, but i'm not sure thats what it's done. The further on I get, the more worried I am when I still cant hear it.

PrivetDancer · 05/05/2010 10:38

really really don't worry about not finding it at this stage - I think most midwives would refuse to even try this early as they know how stressful it can be when you can't and it is not very easy as you've found out.

fwiw I did find mine reassuring last time, although I didn't even try to use it til about 16 weeks when the midwife had listened in the normal appt. If I was you I'd try and leave it a couple of weeks before trying again. (she says even though I'll probably have another go later ). (I have read it's supposed to be best with a full bladder by the way)

LutyensWantsAFryUp · 05/05/2010 12:04

vmcd, a doppler doesn't always work this early in a pregnancy. Are you sure you didn't pick up your own heartbeat last time?

I wouldn't use the doppler for a few weeks as it will only give you more stress than its worth. Relax and think positive thoughts. That's what I'm doing

vmcd28 · 05/05/2010 12:54

thanks, both, for your comments re the doppler. I am pretty sure it was the baby's heartbeat, as it was about 2 beats per second, and mine was a bit slower than that.

liahgen66 · 05/05/2010 13:19

vmcd why don't you call the epu and ask to pop in and be checked over.

Hope everythin is ok for you.

cluckyduck · 05/05/2010 13:27

Ooh vmcd I could have written your OP! I am 10+3, and for the last two days my symptoms have really waned; I still feel fairly sick/tired, but nowhere near as bad as I did - I think its pretty normal for this stage!

Doppler use is madness! It will only lead to heartache, please hide it away for a few more weeks - my OH has refused point blank to tell me where our old one is hidden til 16 weeks!

pinkpeony · 05/05/2010 13:31

I had same thing - at 10 weeks all my symptoms vanished and I felt completely "normal". I panicked as I had a previous MC, and had a scan done - all was fine. Ironically, after 12 weeks, nausea came back with a vengeance for a few days and I was throwing up (for first time in my pregnancy!). DS is fine and healthy and turns 1 in a few weeks. Hope all is ok and good luck.

hopingforanother · 05/05/2010 13:37

Hi -

I had a dip in symptoms at about 8 weeks for a day or maybe 2 which freaked me out, but they came back again.

Nausea dissappeared at about 10 weeks, on and off for the first part of week 10 and competely gone by start of week 11. By week 12/13 other symptoms like bloating started to tail off.

This is my second baby and I felt more sick but less tired - as in the first time I was falling asleep at my desk until week 16 and this time I've just been knackered.

I don't think it is unusual for symptoms to go at 10.5 weeks, but I do know what it's like to feel worried, I found things started to feel easier after the 12 week scan both times - and I think it was a hormonal thing as well as having seen everything was ok. Hope that helps!

NovemberAli · 05/05/2010 16:48

I was the same, nausea and tiredness from 6 - 10 weeks and then it suddenly went, I was worried like you but then I found it seems to be quite common for symptoms to suddenly disappear at this stage. Am now 22+5 and baby very happy and healthy

vmcd28 · 08/05/2010 13:58

Well, after 3 days of feeling full of energy and having no sore boobs, it came back a bit. Not quite so bad as before, but woke up Thursday morning nauseous (which stayed all day) and sore, tender boobs. So they are obviously going to come and go for a bit!

OP posts:
JazzieJeff · 08/05/2010 20:24

Oh op, please please please don't worry! I totally lost all my symptoms really suddenly at 8 + 5... really unnerving, but apparently it really can happen just like that. I was so scared I couldn't enjoy the lack of sickness for days! I even tried poking and prodding at my boobs to try and goad them into being sore.
Obviously, if its keeping you awake at night then get down to your doctors, but id just enjoy your symptom freeness.... for as long as it lasts! Xx

Amarilis · 09/05/2010 08:50

Hi there

I am 10+4 and the last two days I have felt much better!

I have, however, used a doppler every few days since 9 weeks - and find the heartbeat everytime - it's always in the same place - really low on my bikini line on the right side.. I thank God I have it, as it stops all the crazy stress!

To check the difference between heartbeats, put the doppler on your chest - our hearts beat so much slower than the babies - babies should sound like galloping horses or a rushing train!

Don't give up - because once you master it, it's a blessing. I think midwives don't realise that like computers and phones, technology has moved on, and dopplers are amazing these days.. PS, did you know, they only have a shelf life of 12 months - so don't use someone elses old one, or one you've had knocking about for years...

My cost £24 from amazon (Angelsounds) and it was worth every penny. I use LOADS of gel by the way - I think that's the key!

Good luck one and all - we're nearly at that magical 12 week mark!

lemonysky · 09/05/2010 09:39

JazzieJeff did your symptoms return?

JazzieJeff · 09/05/2010 15:53

No lemonsky, they left and didn't return, I think I've had a few occasions since where my boobs have been sore, but that's been it. Unnerving at the time but now I consider myself lucky! X

vmcd28 · 09/05/2010 19:15

I'm just confused now. My symptoms are back with a vengeance, but I now have brown spotting (again). I'm starting to struggle emotionally with all of this worry.
2 miscarriages last year, then this pregnancy has had a lot of "scares" and has made me tense as hell. I'm happy with the nausea, if it's a sign that all will be well.

OP posts:
comtessa · 10/05/2010 10:54

First: My all-day nausea stopped (thankfully!) at 9 - 10 weeks (now 11.5 weeks). Now I'm just tired a lot. Also my taste buds are still up the creek. Apparently it is very normal to lose the nausea sometime 8 - 14 weeks.

Also, what's a doppler please?! Does it use ultra-sound? Thanks! x

vmcd28 · 11/05/2010 18:47

comtessa, a doppler is the ultrasound device used to hear the heartbeat
