Baby's movements - advice please

This is my third pregnancy and I thought that I could feel the baby moving last week on Tuesday and Wednesday - lots of tickling feelings from the inside. I mentioned this to my midwife on Thursdsay and she said that it was quite early - I was 15 weeks then (and 15+4 today) and that early movements were really hit and miss. All was well at the appointment and I heard the heart beating. I haven't felt much at all since then though. Are movements early in pregnacy really hit and miss or should I be concerned?

mine are the same, iIhave been feeling the baby on and off since 14 weeks, sometimes a lot and then sometimes not for a few days. I guess it just depends where abouts the baby is so I would say yes tis hit and miss

Thanks Hevster, my previous pregnancies were 12 and 10 years ago and I can't even remember when I first felt the babies moving let alone what the movements were like. The sensations that I have been feeling are so ... well, little and delicate that I did think that I could have mistaken them for something else altogether!

IIRC once you feel movements you are meant to feel them every day.

I remember that once the movements are really discernable they should continue but the midwife seemed very comfortable that 'hit and miss' was ok at this early stage. I'd feel like a bit of an eejit calling the midwife as I wasn't even entirely certain what I felt was the baby.

SamanthaB123 I questioned the hit and miss movements with the midwife and she said it was quite normal until you get to the proper kicking stage and then you should feel them every day

I'm 16+3 now with 2nd DC, first thought I felt baby move at 14wks then nothing til a few days ago, have felt movement on and off over last few days. I think this is normal in 2nd or subsequent pgs and at this sort of stage. The movements become more frequent/regular later on I think.

I would say hit & miss early on - I felt my first DD at 16 weeks, and I'm sure that when the baby is facing your spine you are not likely to feel movements, but are when they are facing your tummy, if that makes sense. (fewer nerve endings internally? - and baby still quite tiny so lots of space for movements to get lost)

Mine were really hit and miss from when I first started feeling movements with this one from 18-19 weeks. With DS I really can't remember!

I was worried, and was told by the Dr it will be hit and miss at this stage as there's still so much room for the baby. He said it's from week 24-26 that you should be feeling movements every day.

If you're really worried, go to the midwife or Dr to get them to listen to the heartbeat. I went to mine at 18 weeks and it really put my mind at rest.

Thank you everyone, I feel quite reassured. I am finding that at this early stage the movements are most noticable when I am very still and quite focussed on my belly. I think that when I am busy and rushing around I just don't notice so much. I am not seeing anyone now for a few weeks, 20 week scan is next, so if I am worried between now and then I think I'll call the midwife.

Fab, I don't think that's true about how you should feel early movements every day - everything I've read has said that they tend to be intermittent at first, especially if they're as early as 15 weeks. The baby is just a few centimetres long then!
