Best anti-itching belly butter?

I know it's been done many times but I can't find a thread on it. I'm allergic to Bio Oil, currently using Palmer's cocoa butter with the occasional Tui bee balm day. My skin is really, really itchy and even the Palmer's doesn't really cut it, I'd like something organic, sweet smelling and very moisturising - suggestions?

Admittedly I haven't been THAT itchy as a result of the pregnancy - just a few patches on my stomach. But I have had very itchy and dry skin for other reasons in the past and I've always found that a combination of E45 cream (for the REALLY dry and itchy bits) and E45 lotion (for the bits that aren't that bad) has worked for me. So far seems to be doing the trick with preggers itching too.

OK, it's not organic and it's not sweet-smelling, so you might not want to give it a go. But it is dermatologically tested, is cheap (YAY!!) and is unfragranced - which I like cos then I can smell of whatever fragrance I decide that I want to smell of . And it is very moisturising, especially the cream, soaks in well and doesn't leave me feeling greasy.

Try Burt's Bees Belly Butter.

Lush Dream Cream??? It's very thick and smells quite herbal-y. Imagine it's organic... don't know though. Aren't Lush generally organic?

Or you could try plain vitamin E oil from the pharmacy.

Waitrose baby bottom butter is very moisturising and soothing, but I'm not sure whether it would help with itching. Aveeno cream (there's a lotion too, but cream is better) would probably help with the itching a lot, I use it on DS who has eczema.

dolphina78 · 30/04/2010 12:04

Or even plain old baby oil when your skin is still damp after a bath/shower for it to soak in to your skin? I am loving Bio Oil so am thinking baby oil may be the next similar thing?!

slim22 · 30/04/2010 12:10

-body shop shea butter smells yummy and very moisturizing but not 100% organic
-sesame or sweet almond oil on damp skin
-Kiels creme de corps body lotion is fab and while a bit pricey goes a long way

Chulita · 30/04/2010 12:14

I tried E45 but it didn't do the job. I only said organic because for some reason my skin seems to react to all sorts of creams at the mo, highly irritating!
I'll have to try the Waitrose one, heard good things about that on the news - bit of a drive to our Waitrose though.
I get a reaction to baby oil with this pregnancy too.
I'll try Vitamin E or sweet almond oil and Aveeno might be worth a shot.
Thank you!

Try Hydromol - definitely not organic but free from the Chemist with a prescription from the Docs!! Is basically petroleum jelly with emulsifiers in it, so you use it as soap as well as moisturiser. Or just as soap and then slap on something sweet-smelling on top....

It has stopped me scratching my skin to shreds!

I use the mama mio tummy rub butter and the oil which is fab, organic and smells lovely plus stops the itching.
But it's horribly expensive, so you may want to ask for it as a gift!
I'm 35 weeks and no stretch marks yet either, even though still have the masses I got going through puberty so do have a tendency.

Indith · 03/05/2010 17:24

Pure Aloe Vera gel, you can get it in nice big tubes from Holland and Barratt.

Freeasabird58 · 03/05/2010 17:28

I've been using cocoa butter and bio oil, but still very itchy legs mostly, my tummy isnt itchy, i just like the thought of keeping it hydrated, moisturised etc. but due to bad skin at the mo, am reluctant to try anything new as it feels so sensitive.

Also me too, i have the silvery ones from puberty, but i hope i dont get any from the baby bump! well not excessive ones anyway!

Pepsiginn · 03/05/2010 18:06

I've been using the mama mio tummy rub butter too and find it very nourishing and long-lasting.
I use that with a combination of all over Aqueous cream morning and night as my pregnancy has stripped all the oils out of my skin and left me very dry.
One other thing that i found really helped is not to have too hot showers. It's certainly not as nice and hopping into a nice hot shower, but by going luke-warm my skin seems to be faring a bit better.

Hi Chulita
I'm using Neal's Yard Mother's Balm, which is organic smells lovely and is very moisterising. But it can feel quite greasy i.e. it doesn't sink straight in to your skin but that makes skin stay softer for longer. Another gorgeous cream is Origins Precipitation Extra I got this for scaly legs and love it - to be honest although I love the neal's yard stuff I can't wait to use it up so I can go back to origins, it smells divine. Neither are cheap though so again good for presents, I have to keep reminding my DP that I deserve them for doing all the hard work making this lo!

nagoo · 03/05/2010 21:46

Boots botanics do a nice oil that works lovely, but haven't got a stretched belly to properly test it! Also I'm loving soap and glory (righteous butter v good after shower) but not all oragnicy if that is your main criteria. The palmers was what I lived off when I was stretched to the size of a planet. I had 'crackable' sheets. Have you got the proper butter and not the lotion?

nagoo · 03/05/2010 21:48

Organic-y. That's a proper word.

marenmj · 03/05/2010 21:51

I had v itchy legs! I was desperate at one point.

My belly never itched. I used one of the Lush massage bars over my belly/boobs every night. Feels good, smells nice, not one stretch mark (tho that may not be down to butters).

I like the bottom butter now, but still only use it on DD and it's the one thing my American friends want now! I never put it on her bottom tho... just in all the wrinkles and crevices that tend to get chapped and make her smell sweet. It didn't do squat for my itching IIRC.

tartiflette · 03/05/2010 22:48

Another vote for the mama mio tummy rub oil - no itching and no stretch marks despite my ginormous 35 week twins bump and being prone to them in the past.
It's good stuff!
