Does everyone do pelvic floor exercises?

They are so annoying. I hate them. And I always forget to them. Does everyone do them and is it really that important?

Am doing mine right now.

And... release. aah

Answers to your questions are 1) I imagine not and 2) yes I think so.

They are very annoying, difficult to know you're doing it right but am trying to do them a couple of times a day when I remember. DH has threatened to email me twice a day at work to tell me to do them because I keep moaning about forgetting.

Prob worth the effort though.

defineme · 29/04/2010 22:13

I never did them-I had a single pregnancy and then a twin one 3 years later. I did wet myself slightly on a trampoline 2 months after I had the twins, but things soon went back to normal. Sex was fine afterwards too-so in my case no it wasn't necessary.

nikki1978 · 29/04/2010 22:15

Yes do them! Not pregnant now but have had two kids and have just started doing aerobics classes. Several incidents of wetting myself a bit in class have shown me the error of my ways.

Squueeeeeeezzzeee and clench!

angelsw12 · 29/04/2010 22:23

Oh no I can't believe I didn't know having babies made you wet yourself! Joy!

Well, I suppose I should do them then. (secretly looking for more anti-pelvic-floor support!)

Someone on here talked about doing hers while brushing her teeth. That's a handy reminder for me to do them at least twice a day - I have a buzzy toothbrush that self-times for 2 minutes, so I figured 4 minutes a day is at least EVERY DAY, right?
... I should remember more.

KristinaM · 30/04/2010 01:39

i dont know and yes

you will be glad when you are 50

Elsa123 · 30/04/2010 08:30

A tighter pelvic floor not only helps prevent incontinence, but gives you better orgasms. Is that enough motivation?? Oh and men should do them too, for the same reasons.

Jacksmybaby · 30/04/2010 09:14

Bet you anything as soon as you all saw this thread you started doing them then and there... I know I did!

Octaviapink · 30/04/2010 09:32

I used to do them when I was bf-ing dd at night - it was the only way I remembered, and counting helped me stay awake. But yes, they are necessary for most people, if you ever want to sneeze again!

EccentricaGallumbits · 30/04/2010 09:34

Just cast your eyes over the array of incontinence aids on sale in chemists/boots.

that should be motivation enough.

every time you stop at a red light. every time you put the kettle on.

confusedfirsttimemum · 30/04/2010 09:36

Yes, I do.

DD is one and I can't run without worrying about a little leakage. My MIL actually wets herself when she laughs.

I have done them religiously since DD and recently moved on to Aquaflex cones (can't use when pregnant, they're for after) to try and sort things out. If it doesn't, I'm off to the doctor.

Please do them. Incontinence is not a good look, and it's suprisingly common. It wouldn't be worth all the ad spend for Tena lady on TV if it wasn't.

nessmay · 30/04/2010 13:51

I try to remember but like you I do forget, will get into bed in the evening and think ahh sod it, will just do them tomorrow. I have, however, been doing a preganancy pilates DVD about 3 times a week. It's great for your posture, back ache and pelvic floor (you need to hold and release it for each exercise).

mosschops30 · 30/04/2010 13:56

Yes I do them and yes theyre really important unless you want to be dragging your uterus along behind you like a satchel in a few years time

DefNotYummyMummy · 30/04/2010 14:03

Initially I couldn't be bothered to them.

First DC was by c-section and had no problems (although some mothers still have problems as it's just the weight of the baby that weakens them !).

Natural birth with DC2, and as soon as you sneeze and wee yourself, you will start doing them !

Preg with DC3 and the leakage has already started again and so that is a little motivation for me to start doing them again.

Agree that they are annoying though.

Whenever I brestfed I did them and that helped a lot. Much better to do trampolining with my son dry rather than have the embarassment of wet patches !

V. unfair what us ladies have to go through.
