Loud gig - advisable in pregnancy?

Hello

I'm due to go to a loud music gig on Sunday, when I will be 20 weeks pregnant. I read in my baby development books that my baby is starting to hear things now - could a loud gig be potentially damaging to the baby's hearing?

I went to see the Kaiser Chiefs at 37 wks preganant.
Maybe theat's why I always have to shout at my DD to get her to do anything

Sorry - don't really know the answer

I asked my midwife this before seeing the Wildhearts late on in pregnancy. She said try listening to music while your head is submerged in water and you'll get an idea of exactly how little baby can hear! Plus there's skin etc to muffle sound. She was completely unworried about it and dd is fine!

I went to Prince at the O2 when 29 wks with DS and squealed loudly throughout! No impact on DS at all - I would love to go to a gig this time round but too difficult to get babysitter.

I say go for it (unless it is someone like Keane, that may damage baby's musical taste)

Don't think so. I saw Happy Mondays at 10 weeks pregnant and Rolling Stones cover band at 36. No hearing problems with my DS (now 4) other than the selective hearing he's recently developed! You might find that the baby starts moving around a lot - dancing!!

The noise wont be a problem...just avoid moshing.

I went to see Take That last year at 37wks pg.

...and stage diving!

I went to see Kasabian when I was 18 weeks pregnant, DD is now two weeks old and passed her hospital hearing test...I think the main worry with gigs is more making sure you dont get bumped into..squashed etc..

Pefect timing for me this thread

I am due to go to a Faithless gig in a few weeks time when I'll be 20 weeks and had been wondering if it was advisable for the same reasons OP mentioned.

I'll now enjoy it even more and maybe look forward to feeling buba dancing with me

I saw Iron Maiden at 30 weeks pregnant - worth checking with the venue that there's somewhere you can sit down.

I got in touch and was offered the chance to swap my standing ticket for a chair on the wheelchair platform, which was handy as by the time of the gig I was using a wheelchair. One friend could accompany me and we sat back thinking actually we were quite happy not to be moshing with the rest of our mates...

Go for it - it'll be your last for a while!

I went to an outdoor gig at 33 weeks and stood at the back. I sat down on the grass for a while but was really uncomfortable!

EmmaKateWH · 30/04/2010 21:04

I went to a gig at about 9 weeks which was so loud I could feel intense thumping bass vibration all through my body and particularly my stomach! No ill effects that I know of (now 17 weeks).

SqueezyB · 01/05/2010 14:03

nah, doubt it would affect the baby, but if you were later on in pregnancy it might be a bit uncomfortable for you - I remember going to the cinema at around 38 weeks pregnant, and during a particularly loud car chase scene I had to leave as baby was moving and kicking so much it was making me feel sick!

whippybamboo · 01/05/2010 16:53

I went to see Manic Street Preachers at 41 weeks pregnant

londonmackem · 01/05/2010 17:02

I went to see Doves at about 7 months at Brixton Academy - was standing and thought nothing of it. The lovely lady security staff wouldn't let me stand and made me sit in the disabled section -fantastic view and a chair - brilliant!
No hearing problems with DD 9 months

MumInBeds · 01/05/2010 17:13

I saw Alice Cooper while 25 weeks with my first surrogate baby - he's nearly 9 years old now and is absolutely fine, although his mum blames his musical taste on me.

rimsky · 03/05/2010 11:43

Just to let you all know I went to the gig (Iggy and the Stooges) swapped my standing tickets for seats!

And the best thing is the baby has moved loads since, and it's been the first time DP could feel!

Saw Jazzie B when 14 weeks pregnant with DD1. She's fine.

Ah well, back to life, back to reality
