pogesterone pessaries and IVF

I have a scan tomorrow at 7 +3 so really I don't need to keep on stressing, whatever will be will be... but...

I had a missed miscarriage last year and am now pregnant through IVF. I have been using pessaries twice a day to support the pregnancy.

I had a bit of a meltdown lastnight as I am convinced that my lack of symptoms mean I have miscarried and that the pessaries are just supporting a non viable pregnancy.

Does anyone know anything about this? Could the pessaries keep a non viable pregnancy going?

duelling I have nothing to do but follow you around
The only warning that my gp gave me on prescribing cyclogest was that if I mc it could delay the bleeding.

When I mc at Christmas at 6w there seemed no difference or delay due to me using the pessaries but I know we are all different.

So I think you have to cling on very hard to the fact that you have not bled and have no cramps and that you are 7+3 wow

I could be 7+5 today apart from looking top heavy have little symptons but I am clinging onto the fact that I don't have any cramping or congested pains.
It is a completely horrible place to be, scared to hope and scared not to hope.

What time is your scan lovely lady because I will so be thinking of you.

thank you.

I have tried to resist pounding out every worry I have had onto mumsnet but finally broke lastnight and am so scared.

Am hoping if all goes well that my anxiety will stop and perhaps I can let myself enjoy the next few weeks.

the scan is early tomorrow at quarter to nine. I hope that afterwards I will have the courage to join a due in December thread

Dueling - In answer to your question can progesterone prolong an inevitable miscarriage, the answer is yes. I took progesterone suppositories for my last pregnancy. I had 5 miscarriages in the previous 18 months, but all early m/c the longest was til 6weeks5days. With the suppositories the pregnancy was measuring 2 weeks behind constantly on scans (had to be wrong due to when I got positive test), but pregnancy got to 11.5 weeks (final scan showed 7.5week feotus). It was not easy.

I am not saying this to make your fears worse, but I don't want to give you false hope either.

There are plenty of people who successfully get pregnant and use progesterone for support in the first weeks. And it is highly likely that you are one of those. I hope the scan goes well tomorrow and reassures you. Please let us know.

No, I was told (and have read online) that ALL that progesterone will do is help to maintain a pregnancy that was doomed ONLY because of low progesterone-related problems. It simply keeps the uterine lining thick and healthy, which is the best environment for a pregnancy.

If your body recognises a problem, no progesterone supplement will stop it going wrong.

As mentioned before, it may delay visible signs of a miscarriage, but will not stop a non-viable pregnancy from continuing.

Just wanted to say good luck for your scan tomorrow and really hope that it can help to ease your anxiety.

I conceived via IUI and took cyclogest for the first 12 weeks. I know what you mean about worrying that the progesterone tablets are masking any possible problems and creating a smoke screen.

I am now nearly 17 weeks pregnant and really really hope that you too can reach the same point feeling more relaxed and starting to enjoy being pregnant.

Good luck xx
