Is this tiredness normal?

Hi everyone,

I'll be 19 weeks with first DC on Monday. So far, everything has been textbook and im just wondering if this amount of tiredness is normal!!
I sleep for over 12 hours every night straight through, fall asleep again at about 4 till 7 and I'm still comstantly knackered, even when I have just woken up.
When I do out, I have to come home after about an hour as I literally cannot get one foot infront of the other and I am doing nothing all day!!
I'm constantly yawning, almost like im not getting enough oxygen and when I'm standing for a while (doing dishes, ironing) I have to go and sit down! I am also constantly thirsty.
I feel like a lazy fecker to be honest and im sure other people think the same, I just have absolutely no energy at all.
I was very tired up until about 12 weeks but it got better, it's just back with a vengence now.
Should I mention this to the Doctor on Friday when I go for a scan or have other people felt this way? I am reluctant to as I am with a private Doc and extra blood tests etc cost a fortune, don't want to waste the money if I just need to give myself a shake!

Yes and no. They'll check your iron, but it just is very tiring being pg! If you don't want blood tests I'd think about taking iron anyway, although it does take a while to work as I recall. And it makes your poo weird

barrym - thanks for your reply, I'm already taking iron although I do sometimes forget as my brain is mostly asleep. I've been on it, along with calcium for a few weeks and I'm assuming its working as I do indeed have weird poo
I'm really hoping that nothing is wrong but if this is normal, I will be unconsious in a few months

hi i felt like you in my first preg and it has just started in my second (16.4 weeks) the only difference is i didn't get as much kip as u. My doc ran loads of tests and couldn't get to the reason for it so i spent 5 months signed off work with chronic fatigue. I had better days but sometimes i would go to the car to drive into town, wait half hr in the car and then make my way back to the house coz i was too knackered to actually drive.
My GP was brilliant but i didn't get a lot of sympathy from my midwife (dismissed it as me being lazy) and the consultant i have seen this time has told me i won't get it if i eat more vegetables and do excercise - yeah right she doesn't know me from Adam as i do eat a healthy diet and when not preg run 10k's for entertainment.
sorry for the ramble, but i do know how u feel and if u want moral support i am here hoping you feel better soon (i did get my energy back at 36 weeks)

I'd also say it was iron levels. It can take weeks and weeks for it to take proper effect if you're taking iron supplements though so make sure you take it every day and see how you feel. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you if you forget.

Are you drinking enough water and eating properly? I think it's definitely worth getting a blood test to be on the safe side as they will be able to check for more than just iron levels. If your levels are really low though it may require more than just tablets so I really would have one.

If you don't want to pay then go to an nhs dr and request one but I definitely would have one, and I'm needle phobic.

Hi,

Just read this and my initial thought was diabetes, so it might be worth asking to be tested for this as well. Do you need to pee a lot as well? Hope you manage to find out what the problem is
