Hi All

New to Mumsnet but would appreciate hearing about anybody's experiences of having a breech baby; how it felt and what you did about it.

The baby's head is nestled in the left hand side of my rib cage as far as I can tell, scan tomorrow morning to confirm exact position and options.

Anyone been through an ECV or other turning method? Have also heard about a technique called Websters which a Chiropractor administers? Any info gratefully received.

It's not comfy!!

xx

You still have time! You can try HypnoBirthing (a qualified practitioner will be able to do a session with you for this).

What worked for me was putting myself upsidedown with my head on the floor and my body on the sofa with feet in the air. Most uncomfortable and dont do it when you are on your own - you may get stuck!
I was told to stay like it for 30 mins, but only managed about 20 before I just could not stand it any more. Masses of movement a few hours later and baby was the right way.

Head on the floor facing the sofa or facing out? Good grief, the images!

I did it facing outwards. Never thought about which way TBH.

Not my most elegant of moments. It really is very difficult to get upright afterwards and I felt reallt peculiar.

I used a chiropractor and DD turned during the first session. Book in now because it gets harder as they get bigger. If you're in/ near London I can recommend someone.

Acupuncture can work too - a friend's baby turned at 36 weeks after one session.

I never got a chance for my baby to turn. The midwives couldn't make their mind up what way she was facing and then I went into labour two weeks early, on the very morning I was booked for a scan to check once and for all whether she was breach or not! She was, and I was whisked away for an immediate section. All my visions of a natural birth flew out the window so fast it made my head spin.

So I don't have any advice other than the usual one about getting down on all fours as much as possible.

Whatever happens, good luck and just accept that your baby will come into this world one way or another very soon anyway.

Spinning Babies is a fab resource. I couldn't do the breech tilt due to sacroiliac issues, but you can also try getting head down on the stairs - kneel at the top of your stairs, and move your hands down several steps (you may need support from your partner!) - I did this to turn my breech baby several weeks back (currently 40+3, but that's another story). I was only prepared originally to turn baby from a back to back position (as my last baby was), but this one was breech, and the stairs thing worked for me.

Good luck!

DD (2nd preg) was breech. I had an ECV at 38 wks then went into spontaneous labour at 38 + 5 . Consultant had wanted to book me in for an induction on the Thursday (3 days after ECV) but I was able to convince him to leave it until after the weekend. DD was born on the Saturday. I had to agree to monitoring every other day.

ECV felt odd rather than especially painful, and I was given G&A during the procedure.

I went for ECV as I was predicted a large baby due to gestational diabetes and felt a vaginal breech delivery was not an option. Took a chance with the ECV to try to avoid c-section.

There are risks though, so be sure to have read up on them before making any decisions.

Thanks everyone. Now 37+5 and seeing the mw tomorrow. Actual position is breach oblique with feet presenting which isn't great news as you can't give birth naturally if the feet are heading out first. Fingers crossed it'll turn soon... I'm bouncing regularly!
