If I do have GD...

What are the chances of going full term?

At my midwife appointment they said I had four plusses in my urine sample and have made an appointment at the antenatal clinic on wednesday to follow up.

All the other urine samples before have been ok.

So, I dunno if this means I have GD or not so if anybody has any idea that would be great!

If I do, do you know if I will be able to go full term?

Are you due to have or have you had a GTT test?

This is a long and drawn --out test that measures how good your body is at getting rid of sugar. Mines next week.

That should spell out whether you do or do not have GD. Not sure about going full term but I can't see why not - admittedly I don't know all the risk factors but I think babies can be bigger so your mw may just monitor your bump growth, or refer you for growth scans if needed.

Hope this helps

Hi there.

Well if you do have it then you are in good company as there are quite a few of us in the same boat here. There's a support thread full of really helpful information.

I got my diagnosis for GD a week ago and have found the information on the thread very helpful and I am nothing like as scared as I was initially.

You will have a glucose tolerance test where you drink a very sugary solution after having fasted for 12 hours overnight and blood will be taken and tested. If it is positive for GD then you will be advised further by the midwife/doctor. It's common for it to be controlled by changes to diet and from what I have learned thus far these changes need not be drastic.

One thing I have learned is that this is not your fault nor is it caused by anything you have or haven't done; it's a PITA but it's manageable and doesn't mean that your pregnancy and labour will be anything other than what you want them to be. I spent a good few days in a gloom about it but you will receive support and there is plenty here.

I hope it all goes well and maybe I'll see you on the support thread.

Hi, Agree with Ruby,, do pop along here if you do get a GTT diagnosis. The more the merrier .

I'm afraid I don't know how likely it is that you have it based on your urine test. Mine were always fine - it was the blood tests that went wrong for me.

With regards to induction, there are two reaseons why they would induce. First is if your baby is looking to be big. The second is a possibility to induce anyway around 38 weeks due to a minor risk of placental failure. I think this decision would partly be based on how well you managed your blood sugars up to that point. In any event, they'd be unlikely to let you go overdue.

HTH and in the nicest possible way, hope we don't see you on the support thread
