I'm 35 weeks and my baby get hiccups around 4 times a day.

How often does your baby get hiccups?
Does anyone know if there is to many times a baby can get hiccups?

Hi MrsCraig87
I didn't realise my baby was hiccupping until after I read your thread and asked my friend! I have noticed I am getting a rythmic pattern which I wasn't sure what it was but now know! So thank you, I have read that this is a good sign the baby is strong and healthy so don't think you have anything to worry about but might be worth double checking with your midwife?

It's to do with them trying out their lungs ready for breathing so it is a good thing.

DS had hiccups multiple times a day before he was born, including at night when I was trying to sleep. Kept getting frequent hiccups for first few months after birth too, usually after feeds. Only gets them infrequently now that he is 11 mths but still around once a week.

All the frickin' time!! It really gets on my nerves eventually - its like water torture...

DS1 had hiccups very regularly after he was born, too...

Mine gets them all the time, mostly between 6.30am and 7am and then again when I have had my lunch and again at bed time! I was worried at first but I read somewhere that it isn't painful for babies like it is for adults and that they find it quite soothing so don't worry

With DD she got them loads before and after her birth.

Im now 36 weeks with DC2 and again getting feeling loads. Id say about 3/4 times a day.
MW has said its a good sign, they are practicing using thier lungs.

Am also 35 weeks and I get this Every. Single. Day.

Normally around mid morning, tea time and (most annoyingly cutely) right when I'm about to fall asleep. For anything up to 15 mins at a time. MW said it's breathing practice, which I find really sweet even though it's annoying at the time.

Although with mine, after about two minutes Baby starts squirming and kicking - almost like it's trying to get rid of them.

I second water torture. But one of DH's fave pastimes is watching my tummy bounce!

narmada · 21/04/2010 19:48

My dd, now 2 yrs, had hiccups at least 6 or 7 times per day from about 20 weeks till birth. It was cute!

mumabee · 21/04/2010 20:51

Im 36+4 and have been getting them 3/4 times a day, anything between 5 to 30 minutes at a time, after meals. They don't bother me and reassure me that Baby's system is functioning. Weirdly, I have also started getting regular hiccups but not for long, usually when I am eating. Now that's annoying!

It's the braxton hicks that step up a gear when I'm trying to sleep that are a real pain in the butt!

Thankfully there's not too long to go now

bubbles12 · 22/04/2010 13:49

This is a very reassuring thread! I am 39 weeks ish and the baby has been getting the hiccups at least 3 or 4 times a day for what feels like forever!

Summerhols · 22/04/2010 19:40

I am 31 weeks and baby only gets them about twice a day but it is ALWAYS about 4am and wakes me up. I am very happy that baby is practicing but could it please do it at say 7am when mummy is not trying to slee?

first1 · 22/04/2010 19:42

I'm 36+3 and baby gets them about 2-4 times a day, lasting anything from 2-20minutes!
