I have had high blood pressure problems in my previous three pregnancies and preeclampsia in the last two. My blood pressure has always started going up at around 23 weeks and the last two have turned into preeclampsia but not until much later at 35 and 36 weeks. I have been in and out of hospital from 23 weeks onwards but every has come out of it ok (although I did get pretty unwell with my second) I have I am 25 weeks pregnant now with my fourth and havent been ALL that worried bur for some reason now I am totally overcome with stress about my blood pressure and worry about the pregnancy to the point where I cant relax in the day and I cant sleep at night (i am typing this at 5:30am I have been awake sice 3:45 am).

I am ALREADY seeing the midwife every two weeks, and that will change to every week soon. When I go there if I mention that I am worried she will get a panicked look on her face and say something like "why have you got symptoms? do you think you should see the doctor?" or otherwise "whenever you feel any different go straight to the hospital" which is true I know but if I actually follwed that advice I would be there every few days which I am sure they would soon get tired of. We went to see the consultant early on to discuss things and she seemed totally unconcerend about it saying "well if it goes up we will have to deliver early as medication hasnt really helped before- no problem!" I suppose she sees it all the time but that just made me panic more.

I can see her point as I have never had any of the symptoms they ask about headache, vision problems etc not even swelling just that I have woken up feeling something was wrong and that baby movements reduced significantly when my blood pressure started to go up too high normally by about 27 weeks when I started on medication. Of course now I think about it I feel like that all the time because its on my mind (all in my head im sure).

anyway sorry to go on but generally I just wanted to know If I am alone with this - people say dont worry it will make your blood pressure worse which is true but the most unhelpful comment they could make. My blood pressure was up at my last appointment (was 160odd /97)and I have another on friday where I know the likelyhood of it being high again is quite good. I know I need to put a few things ito a hospital bag before then goign on past experience but I cant bring myself to buy any pjs (dont have any that fit!).

argh help make me see sense!

I had PE with dd1. Nothing with dd2, but it hung over me the whole time with my second pregnancy.

I was jumpy, couldn't sleep, couldn't relax, couldn't really focus on anything. The first sign of a headache, I would panic. Any difference in my vision sent me mad! Pain in my bump, nausea, constantly looking for signs of swelling..it was the most horrible time in my life...until I had a scare at a week before my scheduled section! But it was just that, a scare...but bloody horrible.

So, yes...I have been there & have the utmost sympathy for you.

I know it isn't helpful, but this is why I have chosen to stick at 2. I just can't face all that again!

Good Luck!
