Retroverted Unterus on scan anyone else?

Last pregnancy all was fine including uterus.

This time baby was harder to see due to my uterus being retroverted. Very odd scan picture shape too.

Anyone else had this which has only shown up in 2nd pregnancy? Could it be pregnancy related?

My uterus is retroverted. I think it's just always like that. I asked about it at the EPU and they said it's just the position of your uterus, means it's tilted back a bit, and is completely insignificant. Lots of women have a retroverted uterus so it's quite normal. I have heard that it can make scanning a bit more tricky sometimes but I haven't had that problem. How far along are you? I think it only makes the baby harder to see early on when it's very small. Try not to worry about it

I've had 2 perfectly normal pregnancies and only found out last week that mine is retroverted. Don't worry about it!

Only 12+5 so maybe it will be a bit easier on the 20 week scan.

Thank you

Me too - the sonographer said it means nothing, its like some people have blue eyes and some people have brown. As the baby grows the uterus moves anyway, apparently.

I've got one too. It was hard to see the baby at 10 weeks on the scan because the uterus was tilted away, but my 20 week scan was clear as anything. The uterus straightens up as the baby grows, it isn't tilted back the whole way through the pregnancy.

I'm not sure if mine was retroverted the first time round - certainly no-one mentioned it to me. I wonder if things just got a bit floppy afterwards.

I had this - apparently it's not a problem, mine was in the normal position a coulple of weeks later x

I have one too! It is just a variant of normal - like being left-handed. During pregnancy it will 'flop' up at some point and they won't be able to tell on the scans any more. (Or that is how I understand it)

Phew, I did the ultimate no no, after getting home I googled it, and wish I hadn't. The sonographer didn't really say anything just said it makes her job a little harder for seeing.
It is nice to know it is quite common and that the 20wk scan won't be quite as unconfortable

Thank you for your responses.

I'm 17 wks and I'm sure mine has popped forward now cause I have just started to feel the baby from time to time and last night could see a little squirming movement across my lower tummy... So yes I should think by 20 wks it won't be so awkward for scanning
