Should I go to EPU?

Hi,

Sorry for all the thread I've been starting. Wondered if I could have some advice. Just want to know whether or not you would go to EPU. I am 6 weeks today (I think) and have had a little dusky pink spotting since yesterday am - very little but def there. I think it comes after pooing but it is def vaginal.

I can go to EPU today but as I am so early it's possible they will see nothing even if everything okay which presumably will just make me more worried.

I was feeling a bit sick last week but this has disappeared now though I do need to wee a lot now and have sore (but not painful) boobs.

Also would it make any difference if I was to wait until tomorrow to go to EPU? I mean, if somethign is up they can;t do anything to prevent it can they? Or can they?

Thanks for any advice.

have you MC before? I had a MMC then when pregnant with DD1 they told me to phone them whenever I needed to - I'm not sure about your EPU policies/procedures but it might be worth phoning rather then just turning up

hope all ok for you

dizzydixies · 20/04/2010 11:28

an no, if there is something wrong they can't change that but it would give you some answers

laughalot · 20/04/2010 11:28

I would go just to be on the safe side, I went with both my dc as had a bleed with both. It was around the six week mark I think that they could see something by doing a internal scan. Good luck

I would wait til tomorrow if it means you can go first thing

yellowflowers · 20/04/2010 11:34

not been pregnant before (and took 2 and half years to get to this point!)

They are not answering phone it seems and left message for them to call me back but nothing. Tried to call again but mailbox now full. Woman answered phone in ante natal dept and said very busy today (another reason to go tomorrow?)

go tomorrow but get there 15-30 mins before they are supposed to be open so you can be at the head of the queue if possible

laughalot · 20/04/2010 11:37

I went to my gp and they booked me a appointment the same day for epu.

cardamomginger · 20/04/2010 12:30

I had spotting at 4 and again at 5 weeks and my GP referred me to EPU - got an appointment immediately for a scan. Just in case you do need a GP referral for a scan maybe give your surgery a call and insist on a same-day appointment (don't be shy about insisting!). That way when you pitch up at the unit you can wave a referral at them if that's what they require. BTW - mine was fine - just implantation bleeding. Good luck!!

mermaidspurse · 20/04/2010 12:38

I have found that a drs referral does help but the epu will certainly see you if you have any spotting. At 6 weeks they should see enough to be able to put your fears at rest. I am 6+5 tomorrow and having a scan too so will be keeping fingers and toes crossed for you as well.

EggsandBacon · 20/04/2010 12:58

Hi yellowflowers - I echo the others, get there first thing tomorrow (try half an hour before they open) and have a scan. You won't see much, but they should be able to tell you if things are looking ok. You deserve some reassurance.

And like others have said, spotting does not necessarily mean a problem, it can happen in healthy pregnancies too.

I know you're really worried and it's totally understandable so will be thinking of you!! Let us know what happens.

Hello,

I couldn;t bear it so took early (and long!) lunch and went - and wow, they could see a tiny heartbeat. They think I am 5+6 and that heartbeat has just appeared. I think I am spot on 6 weeks today so that is one day out so in theory all ok - they want me to go back in 2 weeks to check.

Thanks all for being so nice and not tellng me I am mad. The doc was also nice and said I was right to get checked. And I only had to wait about 35 mins - what an amazing service.

Oh soooo pleased for you! I spotted yesterday and this morning and GP has booked me in for tomorrow at EPU, am about same number of weeks as you and your story has really given me hope! So particularly glad you went - both for you and for me and anyone else spotting and thinking about whether to go to EPU!

moonstorm · 20/04/2010 19:53

That's such good news - if it helps I have had loads of bleeding, and things have been ok. Hopefully it'll be the same for you xx
