Hi, I had dinner out this evening and had sardines (good for calcium if bones still in - according to my PG book) for a starter but I'm now really concerned they were undercooked. Flesh was pink and quite soft - anyone know anything about sardines? I haven't eaten them in about ten years so have no idea. Yes, I should have asked in the restaurant but menu just said "grilled sardines" not "sardines tartare" so I just assumed they would be properly cooked. Also - any problems if were undercooked?
Help please!

I think they should be fine - muscular fish like herring and mackerel (sardines are a type of herring) are naturally pinkish when they're cooked - like salmon or trout. It's only tinned that they go grey! Sardines are so small they cook through really quickly, so as long as they were hot all the way through, they were probably cooked fine.

I really really think you will be fine. Even if worse case scenario they were undercooked, as long as you do not feel ill. You are advised not to eat udnercook meat due to the potential risk, it isn't definite. As long as you feel okay 2-3 days after I wouldn't worry at all. Hope all is fine

Phew! Okay, thanks for the replies. Just it's my first pregnancy and getting racked with anxiety over every tiny thing )
Feeling okay apart from the usual nausea and tiredness!

Thanks again. xx
