I am hearing Bio-Oil is the best against stretch marks, has anyone used it in previous pregnancies/is currently using it and is it good?At that price, I thought I'd check!!also, does anyone know if it can be bought cheaper online/in bulk? many thanks

The cheapest place I have found it is on E-Bay. I know that Superdrug have started making their own version - it might be worth checking to see if the ingredients are similar as it will be way cheaper than the real thing.

In my experience, Bio-Oil is not great for preventing stretch-marks, but is good for healing them afterwards. I found the best thing for supporting the skin while it stretched was Neals Yard's 'Mothers Balm'. It really relieved the tight feeling across the bump in the later days of pregnancy.

You'll either get stretch marks or not, depending on your skin - there's not miracle prevention or cure for them, I am afraid!

It's on offer at Boots at the moment.

Check out Amazon; I just got 200ml for under a tenner!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 17/04/2010 15:13

Agree it depends on your skin - it didn't work for me.

I dont know about stretch marks but I got some to use on an operation scar. Made no difference whatsoever.

I bought some at Boots on offer.

There seems to be some sort of controversy over whether it really is suitable for use in pregnancy (do a Google search), but so many people use it, I think we'd know if there was a problem by now...

in all honesty 90% of women get streatch marks i used very expensive oil wen preg and bio oil still got them and i was smug to myself thinking i had got away with it at 7 months! not a sign. all those who say oils etc work were the lucky ones who even without it prob wouldnt get them!!

birdsandblossoms · 17/04/2010 18:17

it is half price in Lloyds chemists at the moment

strawberrycake · 17/04/2010 18:40

It's been lovely for keeping my skin soft and itch free. I don't think anything can completely prevent stretch marks, but I'v continued with it because it leaves my skin feeling great. It really sooths tight skin. I buy if half pric on ebay, or recently at Lloyd's pharmacy. I don't mind paying £10 a bottle as it lasts me ages, two or three months.

Thanks for all the feedback ladies: think I might get some to try it out, my mum also raves about Weleda's "9 months oil", so I might give that a go as well. Cheers!

i thought i would also add that i've been using it for the last couple of months when the itching has been getting a lot more frequent (am 33 weeks) and the midwife even commented that i had no stretch marks on my bump! Was very pleased with that, but I do have stretch marks on my hips/love handles. So am going to keep up with bio oil as it can't hurt!

EmmaBemma · 18/04/2010 20:41

Some women will get stretch marks however many vats of bio oil or other miracle balm they get through. It's to do with how much weight you put on and whether you're genetically inclined towards them, and absolutely nothing else.

Used it for a few weeks but it actually made my skin really dry and flakey (grim!)
Have stuck to the old Palmers butter now - fragrance free one, and it seems much better to me.
