hi, i know this is really weird, but i can already feel my babys head is engaged about 3cms into my vagina..i have had twins,6 years ago,and heard that the head being engaged early doesnt nessesarily mean anything in subsequent pregnancies- but my twins came at 33 weeks, the layer of skin is very thin around the head, and im getting nervous.should i get checked out? does this mean labour might come early? I have also been getting really uncomfortable braxton hicks since 20 weeks, about 20 times a day,but my midwife said not to worry. please any info would be appreciated! thanks xx

I think you need to call an ambulance and explain that you think your baby is in the birth canal. Call 999, get off here. Don't walk around.

SparklyGothKat · 15/04/2010 23:22

I am guessing you have been checking yourself? Go and get checked out, but if you are going to go into premature labour, prodding around down there really isn't going to help, you could trigger it.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 15/04/2010 23:23

engaged means the head is on top of the cervix, not 3cm down the vagina, you need to call an ambulance and get medical help now. How long have you been like this?

SparklyGothKat · 15/04/2010 23:25

yep belle is right, I read that as 3cms dilated but if you can feel your baby's head then you need to call 999

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 15/04/2010 23:27

Farking hell, my stomach's doing cartwheels now.

I hope you're on the phone pet.

Jaquelinehyde · 15/04/2010 23:28

Have you called 999 Beth are they on their way?

SparklyGothKat · 15/04/2010 23:35

am off to bed now, but hope you have called 999 and they are on the way. Fingers crossed you are ok

beth07 · 16/04/2010 13:04

Good luck, hope all goes well

Do you mean you can feel your baby's head but there is skin/something covering the head and you can feel it through that/in the uterus and not that the actual cervix is open and you can actually touch your baby's head directly?

If so, I think that is pretty normal. I felt all of my babies heads during pregnacy via my vagina after my mum had told me it was possible, so I checked. however, the heads obviously weren't actually in the birth canal and the cervix was closed.

I hope everything is alright.

Maybe she has been kept in?

30 weeks delivered - is that relatively okay?

Lulumaam · 17/04/2010 17:05

hoping it is not prem labour as 30 weeks is v early.

it would be unusual for the baby to be that low, with the cervix dilated enough for the head to be so low, without serious pains and waters breaking or at least bulging i would have thought

layer of skin around the head - not sure what that means..

the cervix could be thinner /effaced early.

thre is no layer of skin aroudn teh head, so i presume OP means the cervix was effaced..

also, the cervix can be a couple of cm dilated after a vaginal birth, for ever more. ( multip os)

the head being engaged, is v ery differnt to being in the vagina

the baby can feel v v low, but actually not be in the vagina

anyway, if a pregnant woman is worried about prem labour or anything else, the best and really only course of action is to contact her midwives/delivery suite immediately for medical advice

OnlyWantsOne · 18/04/2010 13:58

hope she's ok xxx

beth07 · 18/04/2010 17:59

Thanks for your concern and advice everyone, apparently there's no need to worry - I was told everything's normal down there except that I'm carrying the baby very low..which is unusual; but then I am only 8 stone, 5'3" and carried twins, so maybe my body's just usedto being squashed around and can't give much space?! I don't look 30 weeks, even though baby's normal size,so it makes sense she's pretty low. unless I get any signs of labour or unusual pains we should be fine and go to term. Thanks everyone!
