Light pink discharge worried - anyone experiences?

Hi, I have previously posted as been spotting brown on and off since I found out I was pregnant (I am 7w today). I also had cramps a couple weeks ago.

I was referred to the EPAU last week (at 6w) and they saw a heartbeat, baby was where is should be and they said that everything looked ok.

I has no spotting for a week and then started again on Sunday night brown and light pink discharge (sorry - TMI!) a couple of times a day since. So, I got in touch with my EPAU who said they would do another scan next week to see how everything looked. Annoyingly, they said that if that looked ok I couldn't have one at 12 weeks (presumably because I'd used up their resources enough). So, dp and I decided to go for the scan next week and just pay for a 12 week one ourselves.

The Doctor/ Midwife I have spoken too have said that, whilst 'not normal', this kind of spotting does happen and can happen throughout the pregnancy. I am going mad with worry we were so happy when we found and out and this is a very wanted little bub. I was wondering if anyone else had experiences of spotting in early pregnancy and whether it carried on/ settled down. I even wondered whether it could be a yeast/ ut infection?

Thanks x

Planner - it is very difficult to say. I believe spotting will occur in around 30% of normal pregnancies, but equally it happens in most miscarriages. I wouldn't worry about the cramps which occured before your scan.

As for my own experiences, I have been pregnant 4 times:

  1. No spotting at all but learned at the 12 week scan that the baby had died at 8 weeks
  2. No spotting, now have DS
  3. Spotting which ended in another miscarriage at 10 weeks
  4. Spotting until 8 weeks, but saw heartbeat at 9 weeks. Am now 11 weeks so looking good this time fingers crossed.

So I've had it all ways really! You have seen a heartbeat which is a positive thing, and have another scan next week after which all being well you can start to have more confidence. I've read that the chances of miscarriage after seeing a heartbeat at 8 weeks are very low indeed.

All the very best to you.

I had spotting in pg with DD2 at about 7 weeks i went for a scan where they said they could see clots around embryo and to just wait and see, she was fine. I also had a pg 2 years ago where i bled at 5 weeks and a little further on but ended in ms, i think its pot luck, try to remember that bleeding or spotting is very common in pregnancy - its good that you have seen your lo's HB because as a very wise midwife said to me once, its harder to get a heart beating than to stop it - i really hope it works out for you, hang in there and i am sure it will be fine. Good luck for the next 7.5 months

planner26, just to add that I've had spotting on and off - usually pinky brown as you describe - since week 5 (I'm 10+3 now). It's pretty much cleared up in the last couple of weeks.
I've had two early scans and at the last one saw a heartbeat, like you. The doctor said spotting of this kind is very common and not to worry. So I'm trying not to worry! Not much helpful to add but just wanted to say try not to panic about it - whenever you hear the words 'not normal' it sounds terrifying, but it doesn't mean anything is definitely wrong. Fingers crossed for you.
