Hi

sorry but I don't know where else to ask!

I'm 4 months pregnant and am going to a wedding...i look very pastey from all the morning sickness!

Can you use fake tan when pregnant, or are there certain brands that are ok?

Thanks!

Hmmm - yeah i would like to know too - only so that i don't scare the general population when i decide to brave the legs hopefully soon....
Anyone know?

I had a spray tan last week in preparation for a wedding. As far as I know there are no problems with this and the therapist was absolutely fine doing it.

I've got a pregnancy book (its become my bible!!) and it actually recommends fake tan over going in the sun if you are feeling the need to be browner.

So you go girl, fake away!

Really? This is brilliant news. When I opened up the thread having seen the title I expected to see a raft of responses saying "ABSOLUTELY NOT, NO!!!".

[Awaits said raft of responses...]

Yay! I was wondering this. My legs are so scarily white and pastey looking!

This is good news. If I'm going to have freakily swollen ankles, at least they can look a bit sunkissed.

yy go for it. I used fake tan all through my pregnancy and look all healthy in the photos.

You might need someone to help you reach backs of your legs though

Thanks everyone for replying....I'm glad i'm not the only one who was wondering (i was worried it was a bit of a 'wag' question for mumsnet!!)

I'll crack open the fake tan this week end (.....hopefully it will disguise my varicuos vains!)

I would disagree with what the PP's have said.
Many cosmetic products including fake tans, suncreams and make up and (most non-organic ones in fact) contain cemicals which are known, or suspected carcinogens (substances which cause cancer). Names to look out for on labels include Methelparaben and Ethelparaben (google those terms and read about it for yourself).

Of course your tan salon is going to say it's safe - they want to sell you the product. BTW, these nasty chemicals are still found in many big brand baby skin and bath products. start reading the labels.

You'd be safer getting a real tan but don't burn and do it gradually (organic or paraben free suncream of course), people who tan in a gradual way get LESS skin cancer than people who get no sun, and also get lower rates of other cancers because the vitimin D your skin makes when exposed to sunlight is a potent antioxident.

These types of chemicals are absorbed through your skin and can cross the placenta they disrupt hormones within the fetus, and can lead to conditions such as malformation of the babies genitals (much much more common now than a few decades ago)- why take that risk? At least spend a couple of hours on the net reading about the issues before coming to a conclusion - don't just decide it's fine because the girl in the tanning salon says it's safe!
