Are tens machines worth hiring? and do they still work if you're lardy?

Wondering about tens, do they still work as well if you're fat? And do they only help with very early labour? Would you say they're worth hiring? thanks!

See about ebay first? I liked mine. Dont know about lardy but I found that it did really help.

yes, yes and YES!!!

I constantly sing the praises of TENS - found mine amazing.

Some people hate them (worth trying before established labour if/when you get Braxton Hicks) but I LOVED mine.

You will get some posts saying YES!! GET IT!! and other's saying that they're useless/horrible/the work of the devil.

Two important things-
-Ask the MW to check positioning when in labour
-Make very very sure that your birth partner knows how to change the batteries very very very quickly. Mine died the minute after DS was born

I was surprised at how useful I Ffound tens so would recommend it. I kept me going for agood few hours and into established labour. I 'hired' mine for free from Surestart if you have a centre near you. Idon't think being lardy makes a difference.

Yes they work.

Yes they work if you're lardy .

Whether they work for longer than the early stages of labour depends on your labour I guess. Must say, I loved mine immediately after DDs birth - it helped me to 'come down' off the pain if that makes sense to anyone?

Loved my tens, it worked well for about three quarters of my labour (the first three I mean).

Make sure you get the pads stuck on just right, change them to another area if it's not helping before deciding it doesn't work for you. I think this may be where some tens non-fans go wrong.

As for the body weight thing, I have a good covering of body fat it still did the trick for me.

Yes they do, in the beginning ...

I used mine when I got home from the hospital with a very painful coccyx (think it got broke!) The TENS was brilliant then.

I loved my TENS and hired it from BabycareTENS last time, planning to do the same this time. My husband swears by it for all sorts of things but his is not suitable for labour so hired one. Found it very annoying when I tried while still pregnant, fantastic during labour.

Hated mine made it worse - I'm with Jareth think it depends on you and the labour. I loved my birthing ball though didn't want to give it back. Also, great for sitting on while doing the ironing towards the end of the pregnancy
