Low back/bum pain

Hi all
I m 12+4 and have been experiencing really bad pain at the very bottom of my spine (coccyx??) for a couple of weeks now. (I also pulled something while twisting a few days ago which has just made it worse). It is worse if I am sitting and bad when I get up but seems to ease while standing. This is really starting to get me down and I am worrying that it will only get worse through the pregnancy, I have quite an active job and am worried that this will make things difficult at work... Has anyone else had problems like this? Did anything help?

Any help/advice gratefully received.
Thanks Ladies. xx

I am 16+3 and have had the same pain for a couple of months now. I haven't found anything that stops it completely - it gets much worse when I have to sit at my desk all day at work. I did find a heaty electric cushion thing made the pain go away until I had to sit at my desk all day again...

I did google this a while ago and I think it is quite common. It's a type of pelvic girdle pain or something.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks... I know all this will be worth it in the end, but I never quite realised how hard pregnancy is! Exhaustion, sickness etc etc. And I'm only 12 weeks,... I wish the 'blooming' would start.

Well I guess pregnancy suits some people better than others. I'm not blooming yet, either and I spent a good 5-10 minutes retching over the sink yesterday morning.

Is this your first?

MrsSenior · 13/04/2010 16:38

It is my first, what about you?. I don't mind the wretching, it was the constant all day nausea that was getting me down.

Second for me. The pain was in my hips first time round and I had no nausea. It's definitely more difficult this time. But maybe I've forgotten what it was like last time round... it is definitely, definitely worth it though, even if it doesn't feel like it.

If you haven't got a heaty cushion thing, try a hot water bottle on your coccyx.

Yeah, hve been using that, definately helps. I think I am just worrying bout how much worse it might get, but there is no point in that, I can't change what might happen can I.

I know it will be worth it, just need to keep remembering that! I just feel like a big whinging, moaning, useless lump. But I guess that's all part of it too. lol.

I have had what I thought was just a pregnancy niggle/lower back/bum pain, but turned out to be piriformis syndrome - dunno if that helps at all. As I understand it, one of the muscles that linked my pelvis to my leg had been twisted or pulled. Physio is helping me a lot, as is stretching at home.

I'm in the USA where they're keen to give you as much treatment as possible (moneyspinners!) rather than at home where they seem keen to tell you that pregnancy is hard and stop yer moaning (only what I've heard from SIL, but I've heard it a lot!) so I dunno how much help you can get, but it's worth looking into, maybe?

Hi MrsSenior,
I am 32 weeks and have been getting coccyx pain for some time now, can't remember when it first started but I too sit at a desk all day and have found if I get up every hour and go for a walk (I go the longest way just to get a glass of water) this helps immensely. I made the mistake of not getting up the whole of one morning and boy did I pay for it that afternoon, it was so bad I really wanted to work on my pc standing up! So have learnt the hard way and religously go for a walk every hour.

I bought a coccyx cushion from Argos and already had one from a friend (which kinda flattened!) so with 2 cushions, it does help but not that much.

Some web sites recommend a wedge cushion as well to alleviate the pressure but haven't tried this myself.

Let me know if you find something else that works as I have 6 weeks left at work!
