Just curious, but at what point could you no longer cross your legs?

coldtits · 13/04/2010 19:07

I never lost the ability but it's APPALLINGLY bad for your hips and back.

CuppaTeaJanice · 13/04/2010 19:09

Could still cross my legs, and also bend over and touch my toes, at 9 months.

MumNWLondon · 13/04/2010 19:13

LOL - i just had to bend over and check i could touch toes !!!! I can. I agree with coldtits - crossed legs is bad for hips and back esp whith all the pregnancy hormones around and so not recommended at any point, esp in pregnancy.

fairydusty · 13/04/2010 19:56

lol i just stood up straight away and checked if i too could touch my toes still! Yes i can woo hoo - i'm 34 weeks and i can also cross my legs but don't think your meant to!

At around 16 weeks when SPD properly kicked in .

I'm 27 weeks now (3rd pregnancy - worst SPD of the lot this time). Find it impossible to get comfortable sitting, standing or laying down - I usually ALWAYS cross my legs or tuck them up under me. In fact, I am usually very flexible.

I cannot touch my toes at present and I just recently tried to shave my legs...That was a big fat Fail My toe nails need attention but when I am standing I cannot see them so may as well leave them...!

Oh, I am fed up.

Bad for position of baby as well I would think? As raises your knees and kind of pushes you back?

LadyOfTheFlowers · 14/04/2010 08:05

I can still sit comfortably with my legs crossed and am due tomorrow.
I have not been sitting like it though as I have some very sexy varicose veins this time round.

hazeyjane · 14/04/2010 08:10

I don't think I stopped being able to cross my legs with either pregnancy.

But I am now 27 weeks pregnant with dc3, and have horrendous varicose veins, so crossing legs definitely a bad idea.

It is also a bad idea because it is easy to knock your pelvis out of whack (technical term!) due to all the ligament softening hormones. This is why it is a good idea to sleep with a pillow between your knees too (to keep pelvis aligned).

LouLouH · 14/04/2010 11:05

Hazeyjane, i never knew that. I use a pillow at night as its reccommended, but never knew why! lol.
I did everything by the book in previous pg, but am slacking a bit this time. Never thought about the varicose veins thing though, definately put me off crossing my legs now, even if it is more comfy!
And YAY! i can touch my toes still!

I am now 39+1 and don't have any problems crossing my legs although I do try to avoid doing it.

GJ91 · 14/04/2010 13:21

39+1 and I can still cross legs and paint toe nails! I don't think it is the size that would stop you, but I think people suffering spd or lifewise problems may find it difficult!
Crossing legs is supposed to be bad, i know it is bad for circulation which means it is even worse in pregnancy. When in hospital for hyperemesis and i was in bed with my legs crossed the nurses would tell me off and they said i would get blood clots
