How much weight have you put on by 12.5 weeks?

I would like to get an idea of whether I am about average. I have put on 2kg (about 4.5 lbs), which I am slightly disconcerted about, but is done now. Have been pretty healthy and active, but have obviously just consumed a large quantity.

It is really variable, especially depending if you get M Sickness or not in the early 3-4 months period.

Put your start weight/ height in here and see what it gives for the range.

That's NOTHING. I put on at least a stone because eating made me stop feeling sick. Your weight can fluctuate 2 kg over your menstrual cycle. If I were you, I would not be at all concerned.

DomesticG0ddess · 12/04/2010 18:06

It suggests I should have put on 1.54kg, so I am 25% over (?). So 25% over by the end would be quite a lot of weight, lol!

Thanks beanlet, yes eating helped me alot too with sickness, and still does now, hopefully that will go soon.

good 1/2 stone here.
like beanlet, grazing all day has been the only thing that's taken the edge off the nausea.

mazzystartled · 12/04/2010 18:10

I'd lost half a stone (due to all bloody day morning sickness)

But it's all safely back again (plus another stone) now at 38 weeks.

I think it is very easy to eat a lot and crave carbs in the early months. But I wouldn't let 2kg worry you at all. You might find once the sickness subsides you start really fancying green veg and swimming 4 times per week. With luck!

DomesticG0ddess · 12/04/2010 18:19

Have actually been eating loads of carrots and apples, etc, but lots of crumpets and cereal too!

I think the problem is I have several skinny friends pregnant at the moment, with neat little bumps, and last time I acquired a massive bump.

Hi, I'm 12+2 and due to feeling constantly sick (but not being sick) I know I haven't eaten anywhere near as much as normal so was really shocked this morning to find I have put on 3 pounds! I've had to keep checking all day!
So after that, no, I wouldn't worry about 4.5 pounds especially if you've had a normal appetite.
It's bound to fluctuate over the coming months anyway and if youre keeping active I'm sure youll be fine.

designerjooles · 12/04/2010 18:37

At 12 weeks i hadn't put on anything - due to morning sickness - but from the next 6 weeks i have made up for it.
Everyone is different and puts on weight at different rates. I think as long as your getting a bit of exercise and eating good nutricious food it doesn't matter how much you put on.

WhoopsIDidntDoItAgain · 12/04/2010 18:40

dd - none
ds1 - 1 kg or so, not much but had a slight bump
ds2 - had lost a fair bit due to chronic ms

mummytosquidgies · 12/04/2010 18:58

With both DS and now this one, I lost weight at the beginning due to morning sickness.

At my 12 week appointment at the Dr I had lost 7kg, and now at almost 21 weeks I've gained back 1 of those, so am still 6kg less than my weight when I got pregnant.

I was big to start with so it wasn't a problem. I think as long as you're midwife is happy and so are you, it doesn't matter too much, everyone gains differently.

JazzieJeff · 12/04/2010 19:37

I was the same at about 12 weeks - 2kg. I think that's supposed to be about right isn't it? I'm the same, got morning sickness and the only thing that cured it was eating at regular intervals; if I didn't I wanted to be sick.
I guess as long as it's not through eating loads of crisps then it doesn't really matter.

flintski · 12/04/2010 20:15

about half a stone. I'm another who ate to stop feeling sick - a little more under control now as happily not poorly anymore (at 15w) but am a little worried I am heading towards whale proportions!

DomesticG0ddess · 12/04/2010 20:18

Wow, can't imagine ever losing weight when pregnant, it must suck to feel that ill. When I felt ill, at least eating helped.

I've been finding this thread really helpful, as this has been nagging at me too. I'm aware that between the increased appetite and the nausea, I have definitely been eating more, not to mention exercising less.

I check myself every so often, first thing in the morning, just to have a comparable basis. This suggests I've put on a good kilo already. I'm 9+2 at the moment.

However, when the midwife weighed me - middle of the day, with clothes and shoes - it seemed like I'd already put on about 3kg which upset me a bit.

I think I'll trust my own scales and bear in mind that about 2kg by week 12 would be fairly average.

legallyblond · 13/04/2010 11:02

I gained 4 lbs by 13 weeks and was worried. However, I asked the consultant (who I happened to be seeing that day) and he said the normal/advisable weight gain is 4lbs in first 12 weeks follwed by up to a max of 1 lb per week after that. I am now 16.5 weeks and have gained 7.5lbs...eek!

DomesticG0ddess · 13/04/2010 11:03

Something, when the midwife weighed me I was more - almost 3kg, was wearing jeans, heavy belt, etc, so ignore that! I get SO bloated by the end of the day - in the morning my stomach is almost as normal, sticking out a bit more I guess, bit flabby, but by evening is enormous!!!

OP posts:
SomethingSuitablyWitty · 13/04/2010 11:28

Hey DG - thanks for your experience on that! Yes, I had jeans and belt too, but felt I couldn't argue too much with the scales! I agree too that there is a huge fluctuation over the day and the evening is not necessarily representative

Very reassuring!
